That amp is a Mosrite Venture's Model BG-1000 that I bought new in 1971. It's solid-state and sold for $995, though that's not what I paid for it. Very few were made, very few were sold and the whole "Venture" went belly up in about two years. I have never seen another one in this good a condition, though the cheap aluminum face plates are very prone to dings and dents.

These amps came out with 15" Jensen speakers in them, were very well built by Award in Minneapolis. They're quite large and quite heavy, but they are also incredibly loud.

The amps were among the first to offer tremolo, vibrato, reverb and Fuzz-Rite distortion built in. They had four channels - two for bass and two for guitar.

In the "old days" I used this amp and two extension speaker set-up for guitar and PA.

very cool! :D I wish they still made good old amps like this. Most amps have only 1 channel and I need like 5 for my setup an acustic and 2 eletrics and room for extra!

CRguitarman, that's a really cool amp. Do you still have it?

Yes, I do still have it - chalk one up for the record books, especially since I have moved about ten times in the last ten years. Right now it's in the back room, but I will be rearranging the Music Room for spring, so I will try to get it out. I need to update all guitar and amp pictures for insurance purposes. I still have both the matching extension speakers as well, with single 15" Jensen speakers in them. They were originally Mosrite BG-500 amps, but the heads were never installed. Got them all in 1971 in Minneapolis. :)

Wow, that was 40 years ago this year! :D

Wow CRGuitarman, that is one funky set up.I just love obscure and rare gear. How does it sound compared to other S/S amps from the era such as Kustom? The old Kustoms although S/S sounded pretty tubelike when compared to the other solid states of the time such as Acoustic.

Is that the original baffle board in that pic(showing the cab from behind, with 2 speakers), or did you replace it?

I have 12 working and another 8 or 10 out in the shop waiting repairs. Te ones in the shop are duplicates of some of what I have inside the house. No duplicates in the collection inside the house though. Yep, it's an addiction.

I think this amp is a little less tube-like than the Kustoms, but it really roars when you crank it up. I used to dime it now and then and damn near killed myself in the process. I'll be getting it out again next month and I will try to take some more pics, maybe see about recording some sample sounds.

It's all original, just the way it was made. I was corresponding with the author of The Ventures' Biography and he wanted some pics of the inside of the amp, so I opened it up and took some pics for him.

The Ventures took three prototypes of these Mosrite BG-1000 amps with them when they toured Japan in 1969/1970. All three were stolen in Japan and were never seen or heard from again. I don't think The Ventures ever used them again live as their amp venture went belly up in late 1970 or early 1971. They did play them at one of the NAMM conventions in Chicago.
