Hi! I was really psyched to get my new Line 6 JM4 looper but as soon as I hooked it up to the FX loop on my Fender Supersonic 60 watt head I experienced some serious tone loss. I tweaked the send & returns on the amp as well as the master volume on the JM4 but nothing helped. It's hooked up with two Monster Rock 12' instrument cables so I know at least it's not poor cabling. I find it hard to believe that two 12' cables could suck out so much tone as that is the regular way to get a pedal through the FX loop from the pedalboard. Can't run it through in line with the guitar & amp as when you turn on the burn channel on the amp the drum beats & MP3 playback get distorted from the channels OD. I bought this for the drum tracks & CD/MP3 input. Appreciate any thoughts. Thanks & Rock on!

I suggest you read the owner's manual carefully. I don't see the pedal being used the way you have it hooked up. Of course the drum beats and MP3 playback are going to distort if you use the amp's overdrive channels. That's why the looper has amp modeling built into it.

Hi stratrocs,

Tone loss through FX loop on (insert amp name) with new pedal. Yes, that's normal.

That is usually the case with nearly any amp loop for many effects. Some effects sound like crap in the loop, and sound better in the input jack. And really, a guitar amplifier isn't going to reproduce tones/music accurately, it is made to create tone, not reproduce it. The "burn channel" will distort your drum beats/music on your JM4, whether it is into the input jack or in the loop, doesn't matter. Some combinations just don't work well. I would put the JM4 into the input jack, that may be the best you can do.

P.S.
I am not that familiar with the SS amp, but have you tried plugging the JM4 directly into the "Power Amp In" of the loop? (or however your loop input is labeled) This would bypass the preamp section of the amp. Just something to try.

Por favor, disculpe mi español, no se llega a la práctica con mucha frecuencia.

+1!

It's as integral to one's tone as anything else in the signal chain.
