I have tried to abuse mine, by running it up on ten for about 30 min but the speaker distorts a lot at about 7 and every other voice just sounds bad with the gain or volume up beyond that. No overheating whatsoever. I use the gain and vol in unison when I play it.

These are solid amps, I ran its 4 ohm output on a 8 ohm 10" speaker for 10 straight hours for 3 days to break in a 10" Weber. Not the smartest thing to do but I just wanted to see if this amp can take it. And it did, no problems. I also found that voice 16 the acoustic is the loudest voice.

i have the superchamp XD and since fender only offers these in a compact 10"
spkr package...for nostalgia..i'm sure... you will find that playing them thru a 15" Em legend 15.8 (101 Db) that youl have 2x the vol of the stock spkr! this spkris a great match to my XD + my FM65DSP... and they are not too pricy!
$69??. i'm currently building the taller cab to accomidate the 15" . there is someone on ebay offering this cab complete for XD owners.
so eveyone knows: the amp by itself is pretty darn good! although the programmers should have allowed the treble control to dial out all of the treble negating the need for an EQ pedal in front....but i'm being picky! soon as the cab is complete; it'll be one of my main "go to" amps for the coffee house jam on wed nites!

I play mine through an external 1x12 cab with a 4 ohm Eminence Patriot Texas Heat speaker.

If I turned mine up any louder than you indicated, my ears would hurt! For home use, this amp is more than loud enough, and you will not hurt it by cranking it up.

Thanks for all the answers guys, I put it up to 7 gain and 7 master and I noticed the speaker does start to distort.

If i get an aftermarket speaker like the 4 ohm Eminence Patriot Texas Heat one that rdsmith3 has would I be able to crank both the knobs to 10 and have it sound good? Me and my friend jam together on guitars but he has a drumset so Im wonderin if i put a better speaker on my amp if itll be loud enough for us to hear over the drums. btw we'll be wearing earplugs. Thanks again n_n
