Hello,

My new PRRI amp is fairly quiet when turn on & volume is set at 1 - 3. Go up from there the hissing gets much louder.

Plug in my strat & any volume setting over 4 can be scratchy & loud. Over 5 recording would be impossible?

what is normal for this amp?

Thanking you in advance, Larry...

Your amp has problems. Return it immediately for exchange or a refund. It should be nearly dead-quiet throughout the volume control's realm.

Are you sure that it's not single coil hum from your pick-ups?

with nothing plugged in...

volume 1-3 quiet. as you increase volume a hissing sound developes. it gets louder as you increase volume

reverb 1-3 quiet. as you increase volume a humming sound developes gets louder. it gets louder as you increase volume

so you have a hissing & humming amp with occasional crackles now & then.

thanks for your help Brad & Bruce!

For the amount of cash the reissues cost, there should be no hiss at all. I agree, get it replaced. Fender has a great 5 year warranty, they replaced my amp with no problems.
