Hi There,

I own the Princeton Recording Amp and want to know about connecting my pedals to it.

Currently I have a Boss TU-2, Diamond Compressor, V2 Jekyll & Hyde and a Boss DD-2 Delay.

All are housed in the Boss Pedal Board.

My question is should I plug my guitar directly into the pedal board, which then runs through all my pedals, and out through the board to the front input of the amp.

Or should I connect them all through the amps fx loop/

I always thought tuners, compressors and distortion should go before the amp, and delays, should go via the fx loop, but this seems an overly complicated way of connecting, plus needing two extra guitar leads.

How do you lot use your FX loops?

Cheers
Scott

I keep the OD and compressor before the preamp and all the modulating pedals (delay, chorus, flange, etc..) in the fx loop, with a BBE sonic maximzer at the end of the fx loop chain.

I find the chorus sounds much better without running thru a pre-amp.
Also, many fx loops have stereo returns which vastly improves the sound of your stereo effects over just running it mono before the preamp. There's no comparing stereo chorus to mono chorus.

My preference, as well. After some experimenting I found that my wah sounds better in the effects loop, whereas the drive/distortion stuff sounds better in the front end. But, since I don't always like to have so much stuff going on in terms of cables I'll usually do this type of chaining:

guitar>drive>wah/chorus/flange>delay/reverb>amp

The effects divided by slashes are intended to show a group of effect types, I don't always run all of them when I play. For example, if I'm in the mood to use a distortion, chorus, and delay I'll hook it up in this fashion. Just my preference, really. Nothing beats trying different configurations and using your ears to make the decision. Good luck!
