I just biased my amp! It's a fender deluxe reverb '65 re-issue.

I biased to ~20mA, which seems to be about right from what I've read. Getting ready to crank it up and test it out.

But yeah, I'm being safe, and just wanted to know the answer to one question: how long should i wait before removing the bias tester from the tube? The valve tube itself has cooled, but it still feels warm to the touch around the plug.

So I'm heeding the advice about potentially lethal voltages.

If it's comfortable to your touch it's safe to remove.

20mA is a bit on the cool side for a 6V6 -- roughly the same value used at the factory.

mine read way colder than that, like around 15

at any rate if it's still too cold, i can tweak it again.

anyway, I don't want to make it warm, just enough to smooth out the ice pick.

ETA: I have a burning smell.

Maybe I misread the meter?

EATA: I'm an idiot. I got it right though. Everything is perfect. Sweet. I actually had the wrong power tube set up to be tested. Now that they've both been set, and I've taken more time with it, I feel much more confident in my ability to continue on with this project amp 100%.
