I just got a second Deville, the 4x10, to add to my old 2x12. I'd always heard that these dudes were made to be easily used simultaneously. I presumed that the way to do that would be to just connect the preamp out of one to the input of the other, but I read somewhere online that to do the same thing with the Blues Deville, you should connect the preamp out of one to the poweramp in of the other. Which way is correct?

Hi westonw,

Either way works equally well. Try both and see the difference in sound for yourself. You can get some really different tones using each way.

Using the "Power Amp In" on the second amp will bypass the preamp section of that amp, and the volume and tone controls won't function on that amp, but reverb and presence still function, and the first amp will be a master control for volume and tone for both amps.

Using the input jack on the second amp will utilize the preamp section of that amp, so the volume and tone controls will work on that amp allowing individual adjustment of volume and tone on either amp, while the first amp still acts as a master control for volume. :)

Oh, for another option you can connect a guitar to input 1 of first amp, and connect an instrument cable from input 2 of the first amp to either input on the second amp. Connected this way, the first amp will not be a master, and both amps are completely independent on volume and tone adjustments.

I recommend an A/B/Y-switch with ground isolation (galvanic separated).

Look for the "Lehle Little Dual" switcher. This little red thing has an input for your guitar and two outputs which are separated from each other to avoid hum-loops.

With the Lehle you've got three options: Amp A on, Amp B on or Amp A+B on. No ground-loops will occure! It's the most flexible way to drive two Amps from one instrument.

I use this for routing my guitar signal on a Princeton Reverb and a Princeton Recording Amp.

Best regards

The Radial Hotshot ABY switch, like the Lehle, has ground isolation, a phase switch and is equally bulletproof and much cheaper .

My choice as well.

+1 on the ABY box.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I got a Radial ABY for last xMas and I can tell you it works very well. It is compact and fits nicely on the pedal board, does not require power and you can use it for the application that you exactly described giving you a full control over the both amps.

I also use it on my DRRI as two channel switcher.
