I am selling off various odd guitars and my Princeton Chorus, hoping to bring in enough for a Blues Jr. I have been playing the "standard" Blues Jr at GC during my lunch breaks and love it. Unfortunatly they don't have a tweed.

I was wondering if there was a big enough differnce to justify the extra bucks? Could the differences be done easily on the standard Jr (changing speaker)? Or is it worth it to go with the tweed if given the choice?

Hi Blackie,
I played them both side by side with the same strat.
I ended up paying $80 more for what sounded better to me.
That being said, I suppose a speaker change wouldn't be to
difficult.
Another forum member and expert on the blues jr.
Billm shared with us they have the same innards only a speaker
and covering differance. He also indicated there are plenty of
great speaker choices. He has a website thats pretty informative,
If you do a search for Billm amp mods you should get there.
Anyhow best of luck.

Thanks Mr. Bill. I guess I have to decide for myself if the tweed speaker is right for me, or research other speakers and upgrade the standard Blues Jr. Good to know that the only difference is the speaker and tweed covering. ...Though that tweed looks pretty sweet - hmmmm:)

You can buy the tweed cloth and do it yourself. Or, if you're a little handy with tools, tweed the amp, buy the speaker and build a tweed cab to go with your newly tweeded amp. Then you have both!

The tweed looks great. The Jensen speaker does make a difference. I have owner both the standard black Blues Jr., and now the tweed NOS, and I like the NOS better.

I had the same quandry, Blackie Fan. I played the standard Blues Jr., then asked GC to find a tweed for me. So they did. Took a week or so, but eventually they located one and had it shipped to their store. Then I was able to compare it directly with the standard in the store. As long as they knew I was going to buy one or the other, they were willing to do this.

Then, I bought the tweed. Sounded much better, and I've never regretted paying the difference in price. In fact, it sounds better BECAUSE it was more expensive! Ya know what I mean? ;)

I wanted to tweed my black Blues Jr and was surprised when I pulled off the black tolex. It was made out of crappy particle board! Since I am one of those type that has to tweak everything I own, I decided to make a new cabinet. I made one out of baltic birch with true finger jointed corners. Then I did my first tweed job which actually came out really good! Since I was at it I made an extension cabinet with the same tweed. Now that baby looks good!
Now for the interior! I swapped out all the stock tubes for NOS quality tubes. Sounds good. Next, I lucked out and found a pair of 1955 Jensen P12R's (for 60 bucks total!). Man oh' man what a difference! Sweet bluesy sound! I should mention that I'm a harp player, so I have a bit of a different sound than you string pluckers. I ended up going futher and used the mods listed on http://home.comcast.net/~machrone/bluesjunior.htm. Now that baby is not only looking good, she sounds soooo sweet!

Well today I finally went to make the big purchase. I decided to go with the tweed BJ. Guitar Center did eventually get a tweed that I could compare. So I was easily sold after A/B'ing on a couple of occasions.

I picked today because of the sale they were having, but would'nt you know it - SOLD OUT. The salesperson is ordering one from Corona and will take about a week or so - AND I got 10% off. Nice. Plus $45.00 off a new ts-808. Real nice!

In a way I'm glad that I'll be getting a fresh new amp from Fender - not one that has been sitting on the floor for a couple of weeks. I just wish it could get here now!!

Is there a way to upload pics to this forum? I'd like to post the pics of my tweeded blues jr (actually I call it my Blues Sr. since I did the mods and re-cab to it)and the matching cabinet.

You have to get an account from one of the picture hosting services (can be had free from Picture Trail or Photo bucket). Upload your pix there then post the Image link in your message.

I'm considering buying one a blues junior, but I'm not sure if it'd be for me. Obviously, I could just go try one, but I don't live in city area and I don't want to make a trip for something I might be disappointed on lol. I have a slight idea on what these sound like from videos I've watched..... but I wanna know if it has plenty of bottom end to the sound.... or if it sounds like a practice amp.... I play in a blues rock group and I was thinking I could mic it up through the PA..... ALSO.... what would be a good mic to mic the amp up with? ps..... I'm using a marshall avt 50 head and a marshall mg series 4x12 cab..... it's a big thing to lug around.... and I'm not even that impressed with the tone..... mostly because of the cab (mg=garbage).... but I want that fender tube sound! :D

A Shure SM57 works very good for close range mic'ing.
