I have an opportunity to get my hands on a very good condition Red Knob Evil Twin at a reasonable price.
Does anyone own this amp?
What do you think of it?
Is there anything negative I should be aware of?
How does it compare to a regular Twin Reverb as far it's clean sound?
I know it has a dirty channel....how is the distortion on that channel?

Enough questions!

Anyone?

The cleans are not quite as shiny or as transparent as a true blackface Fender but they're close. The distortion is adequate but with a whole lot less hiss and fizz than a Hot Rod, S/S, or V/M series amp.

If you can look beyond the crimson gummy bears on the front panel and the gray cardigan sweater grill cloth it should be an adequate performer assuming that the innards are in good condition.

compare the schem between sock fender twin and "the twin ".a whole lot of stuff cross inegrated with no better distortion than a fender 75 or supertwin!
IMO ..the stock spkrs sound a little "bark-y" at higher vols even with the bias set correctly. for me simple is better. this amp was an attempt to marry ideas used inthe solidstate redknob models..parallel chan etc as seen on the stage 185 and so-on. it has cool features but to get full use of the lead chan, requires a sizable amt of rework...IMO i own the supertwin,my friend has "thetwin" plus i have modded several htrd dlxs'and dvls' that simply rock!
the best way to use the lead chan is a slightly boosted cln chan. i use a beh.TO800 infront of some of my fenders; especially my BJrs. sound is awesome
