My blonde Pro Jr arrived today, but I noticed a humming noise coming out of the amp. Even with the volume down and guitar not plugged in, the hum is still there. The hum does not get any louder when I increase the volume. It is totally independant. I pushed up the tubes in the socket and made sure the speaker cable is secured, but the hum presist. I also have a blues jr, and it is much quieter, no hum.

Is my pro jr defective or is this normal? The pro jr, aside from the annoying hum, sounds great. Breaks up better than the blues jr IMHO.

try removing the top center screw from the backplate of hte amp. One of my PJs (I have 2) had this problem - the screw was touching an internal shield and causing a ground loop. Cut the screw shorter if this is the problem.

I too love the sound of the PJ, but they are noisy little buggers. IMHO, its a sign of poor electrical design. I'm working on trying to quiet mine.

Thanks for the advice. I did just what you instructed, but the annoying hum still presist. It is weird. If it was some kind of ground problem then the hum should get louder as I turn the volume knob towards 12, but stays at a fixed loudness. The hum is more annoying when I'm playing at a lower volume, 1-2, but when I crank up to about 6-7 it isn't as bad. I like the tone so much, I hate to return it and take a chance of getting a replacement with the same problem.

So you say you have two and one of your pro jr had this annoying hum? I guess the QC is in question and not a poor design.
