I see theres another thread about Blues Jr. rattle but I`m not sure if this is the same problem so I put this thread up. When I first turn the amp on its quiet, but once it warms up it begins to get some static. If I tap the back of the amp near the tubes the static goes away but then comes back again a little while later. I tried adjusting the part that holds the tubes thats on springs, ( not sure of that part name ). It helps for a while and then goes back to the static again. Is this a bad tube or would that be something else ?

Hi JPD,

Sounds like a bad preamp tube/tubes, and/or the solder joints on the tube socket connections may need to be re-soldered. Static, crackling sounds are very different from a rattle sound. If it is rattling, that could be anything, but a static sound as you've described is probably from the preamp tubes.

The part that holds the output tubes in place is called a tube retainer. For other tube types, there will be a retainer at the base of the tube, like a curved metal spring, with half on each side of the tube. :)

Thanks shimmilou, I just called a repair center and they said the same thing. I`m going to bring it in and see what it needs.

I brought my amp into a repair shop today and the first thing the guy starts doing is raggin on Fender telling me alot of Blues Jr.`s have problems. Then after trashing the amp he starts on the guitars telling me G & L`s are all hand made and better guitars and if I played one I wouldn`t go back to Fender guitars again. Would that be because he didn`t sell Fenders...not one in his store. Not only that, the guitars he had hanging on the wall had these plastic kind of wedges inbetween the strings so you couldn`t even try it out. I`m thinkin to myself this must be some kind of joke. If he wasn`t an authorized Fender repair shop I would have taken the amp and walked out. It`s suppose to be done in a week whereas Sam Ash told me it would take about three weeks to get it back from their shop and thats the only reason why I left it with him. The amp is 2 years old and is under factory warranty for 5 years plus I have the extended warranty on it and he`s telling me tube related parts aren`t covered. I called Fender and they said have him call us and we`ll cover it. Some people really have pits.

Well, let's hope that your tolerating the poor attitude will be worth it, if/when you get your amp fixed. Maybe he was just having a bad day. Let us know the outcome, and please ask the tech for as much detail as possible about what he does to your amp.

Fender has a great 5 yr warranty. They replaced my broken amp quickly with no problems.
