"Fizz" as applied to a speaker is characterized by a gritty, metallic tone especially with a new or near-new driver when pushed to break-up. Which is why it's imperative to give any fresh speaker a minimum of twenty hours' use before rendering a judgement as to its fitness to perform the assigned task. This break-in period need not be at high volume levels nor consist of a compressed-and-overdriven signal -- just something sufficient enough to create some cone excursion and remove the stiffness from the diaphragm and the suspension.

Also what I found is, you can shape the high and low frequency response of this amp with different preamp tubes very fast and according to style and guitar. (Especially with V1) I have a very smooth JAN Philips 12Ax7 there right now that works really well, because my speaker is not broken in yet.

Changing the speaker before the break-in period is over makes absolutely no sense, and even then I feel a lot of times changing the tubes can get you there more easily.

Just wanted to chime in. I own a PRRI and a bunch of speakers and I have close friends with a 70s Deluxe Reverb and a blackface Princeton Review. I've played my PRRI through the Jensen OEM C10R, a Celestion 10" Greenback, a 12" Greenback, Celestion G12H30, a 4X12 Marshall w/Celestion G12Ls, and my favorite a 2X12 Celestion Alnico Blues cabinet. My opinions:

1. Very little difference between the Jensen C10R and the Celestion 10" Greenback (highs are somewhat rolled off with the Greenback, but not worth the money to "Upgrade")
2. 1x12 : G12H30 and G12M different tone, both nice, but a moderate change from the 1x10.
3. 4x12 cabinet. Huge, huge tone difference from 1x10, lots of bass thump; no flabby bass as with the 1x10" cabs. Tone is darker (a known characteristic of the G12L 4x12)
4. 2x12 cabinet Alnico Blues (closed back). Huge tone difference from 1x10, lots more bass. Of course Alnico Blues are pricey, but I think the cabinet (3/4" China birch) brings a lot of the tone boost.
5. The tone differences between the 2 Princetons and the Silverface Deluxe Reverb were noticeable, but no one amp was the stand-out tone winner--more a personal preference.

Another poster stated that he sold his DRRI in part due to its fizzy tone. I cannot get fizz to come from the PRRI, nor have I heard fizz from a DR. Possibly his amp needed maintenance. Then again, I might not be clear on the term, "fizz". My definition of fizz: the sound you get with a master volume SS amp, with the preamp gain set to 10, the master volume on 1 or 2 so that the OEM speaker is not pushed hard, and with the treble boosted. Horrendous tone will abound.

Your comment about the 2x12 cabinet interests me. Were I to build a cabinet for 2 Alnico Blues (I have a wood working shop), what would I have to know about impedance and wiring to drive tha cab with my Princeton Reissue?

Thanks, in advance.

A Princeton with a pair of 12's takes this platform to a whole new sonic level......

The amp runs at optimum with an 8Ω speaker load -- thus, a pair of 16Ω drivers wired in parallel is the recommended configuration.

Thanks for the response. Would this configuration take the original 10" speaker out of the chain? I ask this because the Fender manual seems a bit confusing about how to set up an extension. I thought it said the original speaker had to remain plugged in. But, it seems that doing so would further drag the ohm rating down.

The internal speaker should be disconnected and bypassed.
