My amp has been shipped back to a Fender Service Point (they had already sent it back to the store), after Mike told me that Fender apparently has found a "fix" for the noise issues.
Disappointing to hear that these could not really be resolved. I do not expect the amp to be as silent as my PRRI, but it should at least not be as hissy as the CVR I had. :(

I don't know, I will have to wait to hear back from the store, when they get the amp back.

I am sorry to hear all of you having a time with the SS-22.

I got my blond, quiet, nice gain, etc.
I also put my 100W Attenuator on the 22 and crank the amp and attenuate. Works very nice at low volumes like that.

When I get back home I will listen carefully for that. Won't be home for a week though.

I will let you all know. I will even pull out the attenuator.

So, I just unboxed mine today (not having read any of these posts). The amp normal/fat sound absolutely amazing. But, touch that reverb knob and the noise drowns out all my sound. Everywhere I looked at the reviews of this amp had it at 4-5 stars, I'm really disappointed.

I'm on the fence about sending it back and just getting a refund. I was never a big reverb fan to begin with, but man I at least want the option. Maybe I'll give it another day and see what it sounds like tomorrow.

Frank, how much of a difference does the attenuator make on the tone? I didn't take it past 3 on either setting because it was just to loud for my apartment.

Im digging my Blues Jr.III has lots of bite and the reverb is awesome, real nice gain also. I played the SS 100 watt beast yesterday@ price of 1,800! 212v30's I played at lower volumes but it lots of low end power, could really feel it. Still needed more treble high end, Presence knob would help if there was one. I like my Jr. because its brighter but when I had my SS it still sounded really good turned up on the clean channel.

...ahhhh....the infamous reveb "buzz" control. The circuit issues continue.........

I'm guessing that Fender engineering is revising the design as we type. At some point, and I hope it's sooner than later, a new, improved SS22 will hit the stores with the noise gremlins sorted out, and we can all enjoy both those toneful channels.

I usually don't turn the reverb up past three. Mine isn't overly noisy until about five and above. Then it's a buzz control. Changing tubes helped. The tones are so good on this amp, I just have to keep it. When the mod guys come up with a fix, I'll do it. It is sad though, that Fender would release such a toneful amp with these issues.

was telling one of the guys at the music store yesterday that I have a SS, He goes yeah the reverbs are running with the gain stage or something like that cant recall exactly what he said. Then I told him mine died out and hopefully fender has worked this out. So its way there made and untill they rework it.

I wish I read this forum before I shelled out almost $1k for a Super Sonic 22. Got one from GC on a Wednedsay. It had something loose inside so that every time I hit an open string, there was an audible clanging, like loose connections vibrating inside. I took it back and GC exchanged it for another new, fresh from the box replacement.

Got that home and found the hissing from the amp, and in particular the reverb knob, is too loud to ignore at practice levels. Even with no amp or cable plugged in, the amp hisses loudly, with volume at 2.5. Turn the reverb knob up to 3 -4, and the hiss is more than just annoying, it is distracting, and virtually impossible to play over at practice/bedroom levels. This one is thus going right back to GC, as well, and this time I will not replace it. Too bad, because the clean tone is beautiful! Ironically, I bought this because I assumed the American manufacturing would be better than the Mexican Hot Rod workmanship. If I'm wrong about that, it's a sad day in Fender history.

The way to remedy the situation is just don't buy them. There are tons of amps out there that perform as they should. After my experience with my HRDlx, I will never but another current production Fender amp until they start building them better and stop building land fill. I'm glad there are still plenty of reasonably priced SF amps around. Plenty of clones too. Jet City, Egnater, Victoria and many others all make great sounding, reliable amps.

I had high hopes for the SS22, it's really sad. Cut too many quality corners and this is what happens. I would gladly pay a premium for premium components and a reliable rig.

I have the weber 100 W power driver attenuator. I find that there is not too much discernible tone loss. However I am happy to give up some small tone impact for the ability to use it in the house with the tubes breaking up a bit.

As to buzz another question I promised to answer-- yes I have a bit of buzz on the reverb however I use very little reverb and the attenuator cut's the buzz a bit for me too. :)

I also have a bit of hiss/buzz/hum on my BlackHeart BH5 too. I have just gotten to the point that a tube amp is going to make some noise.

While I don't have a 22 I do have the older 60W 112 combo. I biased the tubes on mine and it made a big difference. Now it's almost completely silent when idling and the reverb buzz has definitely gone down.

I love these amps but they do seem to get a bad rep. If anyone is thinking about returning theirs you should check the bias first. :)

EDIT: Almost forgot! I had a Peavey guitar cable and when I plugged it in after my pedal board, it produced a noticeable hum. But it doesn't make any hum when I plug it in before the pedal board. Anyone know what could cause this? :?
