I'm currently on my 3rd Supersonic 22.....the reverb actually functions on this one, however there's still a ton of white noise present as you turn the reverb up. Also, as has been noted, a loud pop when switching from the vintage to the burn channel......

I too have been in contact with Fender.....and repeatedly told to bring the amp to an authorized service center as there is a service bulletin regarding the noise and a fix available.
I gave the service center a call, and hey were kind enough to contact Fender a get the skinny. In fact there is a fix involving a resistor and/or cap addition for the noise, but no clear cut fix for the pop. I decided to bring it in as they are relatively local and chatted a bit with the owner. Yesterday I got a call telling me the noise has been eliminated, and a couple of contacts are on the way from Fender. Nothing promised regarding the pop...but he was going to give it a shot.

The bit of play time I've had with this latest SS22 has shown potential......beautiful clean tone, sweet fat circuit.....lot's 'o gain on tap. Great size/weight factor. Still have a money
back guarantee......one more time.....

I see that Fender is now introducing the Supersonic 100W....are we the purchasing consumers going to continue being the beta testers????

Mike,
Please let us know, how this works out. If they can fix the noise issues, I would be happy to take back the amp from Fender!!

My store told me today that Fender Service Point Germany told them, the noise and hum of the SS22 are normal for this amp.
Just what I expected...but can you believe this?

So new Fender amps are out of the picture for me....

Check out any of the amps from Peavey's Classic Series. They are GREAT, RELIABLE & quality built USA amps that cost less than $1000.00.

Mesa Lonestars are sweet amps too.

Also, for simplicity the Mesa Electra-Dyne is a cool amp.

Any of the ones I've mentioned can do what the Super Sonic can do & more.

The Classics/Delta Blues are great, but don't really have the gain potential that the Supersonic does. Not in my experience, anyway (my only amp is a C30).

Maybe so, I was speaking in terms of how much gain I use, which most of the time, isn't too much. I should have stated that in my post. Good point.

I have the Classic 50 & for my tastes, there is PLENTY of gain caged up in that amp. I play Classic Rock & Blues so for me, the Peavey delivers. I don't have any use for ALL of the gain on tap in my amp, but the Classic is a great simple amp that will get the job done time & time again.

I must have been lucky on my purchase. The reverb did hiss in my SS22 when I first started playing on it. I also noticed a rattle in the p/i 12AT7 tube. I made the switch and this made the reverb more quiet with the rattling tube, and firmed up the tone in the amp. Guess the reverb doesn't care if the tube is microphonic. The amp does have a little hiss, not too bad though. I swapped the 12AX7's with EH's and it changed the tone and beefed up the amp quite a bit. Still had a little hiss. I didn't have any 12AT7EH's around to try, but I'll get some. I posted an idea on another thread about the effects loop being in series, and the signal path being on the TL072 op amp at all times. Wonder if this is where the hiss is coming from? May have to cut the trace and see.

Got my SS22 back from service yesterday, and in a nutshell......popping noise going from vintage to burn channel greatly reduced with the replacement of two contacts...
white noise still present...very little change that I can detect after the tech mods were performed. Let's just say "quite" practice ain't very quite. Oddly enough, the vintage channel is noisier than the burn channel at idle....kicking in the "fat" switch just adds to the noise. Having said the above, at volume, the vintage channel is sweet.

Communication with Fender's Customer Relations revealed the following:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. As you already know, this is a high gain amp, it’s not going to be clean and quiet like a 65 Dlx.

2. This amp was not designed to be played at low volumes although you can use it in a low volume setting, the results will be mixed.

3. It’s a tube amp and noise is going to be there regardless and though some noise amp might not be as prominent in other amps, this is normal.

I do not know what else to tell you, in regards to what your expectations of this amp might be, it is its own breed.
