I've read numerous reports that the new SS22 has a noticable hiss at idle, no guitar plugged in. Is the the nature of the amp, or are there issues with it?

I might expect the gain channel to be a bit noisy, but would hope the clean channel to be dead quite.

My amp definitely is noisy at idle, I am sending it back for service/exchange, because other people here said, theirs is quiet....
You can watch a video here, there you can here the difference between a SS22 and a Princton Reverb Reissue...

Don't underestimate the quality of the electrical feed in evaluating how much hiss an amp has.

At my house, my champ is noisy at idle. Elsewhere, it's a lot more quiet.

If you don't like the sound of an amp from a baseline hiss and noise level, take it somewhere else and plug it in -- not just to another outlet, but to another building altogether.

I've tried four that hissed like a Cobra at idle. Cheap preamp tubes could possibly do it. It does have a lot of gain on tap. Good tubes are a must. I also didn't like the way the bottom end was breaking up over four or five on the volume dial either. It's a shame, this amp has a lot of potential. I also found the Custom Vibrolux noisy too. It would be nice if it was just the tubes.

Gar103...good point about the electrical feed.....

Guess I'll report back in a week or so....stopped by Guitar Center at lunch and chatted with the salesman a bit. He was kind enough to make a call to Fender customer support...naturally they knew nothing about any hissing.
I went ahead and ordered a blonde one anyway....coming out of Arizona.

Fingers crossed !!!!!

I wished it was the tubes, but I exchanged all tubes with high quality and low noise tubes...no real difference.
Also I doubt it is a problem with my electrial outlets, my PRRI is really quiet plus ironically I had a Custom Vibrolux before the SS22, and it also hissed "like a cobra", no matter where...
But good luck with yours....I sent mine back to Fender, hope I get a silent one, because I really like the concept and sound of this amp.
