Hi FenderFreak63,

By boom, do you mean it literally made a loud boom, then quit working? Does the power light still work? Sounds like it might be an output tube, or a blown power supply capacitor (or both  ). A bad output tube could have also caused other damage to the amp, or not. Either way, take it back to the store pronto for them to check it out. I would not advise trying new tubes until the amp is checked out first.

so at this point we dont know if its a faulty amp or maybe
something you did to the amp? if you have the old tubes pop them back in
before you return it bro.

That seems to be a recurring theme with JJ tubes lately, that and rattling problems. Your stock tubes would be covered for 90 days I believe (or more?), not sure about the JJ warranty. If the power light doesn't come on, it likely won't do any good to try replacing the tubes. If it turns out that the tubes are the problem, and caused any damage, how will it affect the warranty? But no one knows what the problem is yet, and usually the folks at GC are great, so give them a call, and let us know the outcome.

I sure will....i went ahead and put the stock tubes back in to return it...all the JJs test fine on the old tube tester....so im thinking its something fried inside...

well we are good people on here if i must say so myself.
there is lots of experience here and some pretty smart folks too.
we do get opinionated about some things so if you ask our opinions
prepare for all different kinds of answers.
the blues jr for example, some of us love it, some of us hate it.
thats with all things. anyways, welcome to the forum and
keep us posted on this topic as it will be interesting to see the outcome.
until then post up where you see fit and join in on the fun.
you will love it here.

Don't be offended. But, is the fuse ok? BTW... power tubes can test ok on tube testers and blow in amp settlings.

Good luck!

The Jr has a internal fuse ?...and if that fuse blew isnt that sign of something making it blow?....one thing i did notice before it crapped out is a drop in volume...i reached around and turned it up a few and about 10 mins later ..it went...

+1 BMW2002Ti,

A tube tester is a very limited test, a bad tube can also cause a fuse to blow.

FenderFreak63,

Yes, if the fuse blew, it isn't likely because the fuse is bad, something caused it to blow. The BJr has a 2 amp fuse for the power transformer, and some, if not all models have a 5 amp fuse for the filament supply. If either is blown, simply replacing it won't likely solve the problem.

I would not trust the output tubes that were in the amp when it quit.
If you put the original tubes back in before going to the shop, that might really confuse the tech if it turns out that the new tubes were bad and caused any damage. And, if you get the amp fixed, or get another amp, you risk damaging it if you put bad tubes back in it.

You may have a shorted power tube. Check the fuse, if it's blown, change the power tubes and try it again. 90% of the time it's just a faulty tube.
