Got my Blues Jr. NOS a week ago...still lovin it. I'm curious though...I'm getting a bit of a weird smell. I assume it is because it is a new amp and it's just the tubes, but how long is that smell supposed to last? I'm no stranger to tube amps....

I retubed my HR Deville this past summer, as well as my Peavey 5150, and I never smelled it this strong. (Recently, I begun to smell it in my HR Deville because I've been able to crank it up deafeningly loud, but it is not nearly as strong as this). How long should I be smelling this for? Or, may there be a problem?

Are you certain that it's not Tolex cement you're smelling?

That adhesive takes some time to fully out-gas.

I don't know. It isn't completely obnoxious, and I kind of like it, for no particular reason. Also, it is the NOS version, so it's lacquered tweed, not tolex. Would that make a difference?

I got my Blues JR NOS a couple of weeks ago and I smelled the same thing. I just kept an eye on everything just to make sure I didnt see anything burning and the smell went away after a few practice sessions. Kinda like when you buy a new car and and can smell all the paint and stuff like that coming off the hot engine for the first few times you drive.

I don't think our NOS's are "lacquered tweed". I think that term is used for when people actually apply several coats of lacquer to the tweed to toughen it up and protect the finish. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah...I think there is maybe one coat of laquer on the tweed. I'd like to get about 5-6 more coats on it to get it a little darker.

I suppose. The tubes in this amp are being pushed harder since it is a one channel, and I keep the volume up around 10, and the master at about 2. SInce the volume is so high, the tubes are being saturated and are getting hot as heck. Thank God for the master volume or I'd go deaf!

That's one thing about my HR Deville and my Peavey 5150. They are both 60 watt amps, and can get LOUD, so I never get either amp up past 1.5, so the tubes never get a chance to really work. I'd love to build a man cave with a seperate soundproof room to put the amps in where I can turn them up LOUD, mic them, then send the sound into the room I'm playing the guitar in, at average volume. That would be cool. When I build a house in a few years, I'm building a big a** detached garage with a full blown man cave/music room on top of it, with loads of soundproofing and places to put amps and guitars. it will be glorious.
