hey all, just a quick question,
is the tone stack mod just replacing the old .022uF bass tone cap to a .1uF tone cap?

Yeh, that was the page i was at too, i dont really know too much about amps so i was pretty much wonderinging if that cap value swap was pretty much what that page collapsed into so i knew what to tell my tech if i wanted to get it done.

Then I suggest you let your tech read the page and decide what needs to be done instead of you trying to explain it to him.

And for the record, yes the tone stack mod means swapping out capacitors in the tone stack. I did it on my BJ and it did make some difference but the O/T mod made more of a difference in the quality of the tone. The tone stack mod merely changes how the amp is EQ'd. The O/T mod gives that new voice a set of cajones.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

+1 The OT will make a huge difference. It's a bigger part of the soul of your tone. An EQ Pedal would do more than just changing a cap IMO and not void a warranty if it has one or maybe it makes no difference to you. Some folks don't really care about the warranty anyway and just mod away. Especially if the amps used or you got it really cheap.

I modded mine with from top to bottom:

270pF Treble
.015 Mid though I did the Bill M mod to jumper the middle and end on pot
.047uF Bass

When I tried the 0.1uF on the Bass, it started to have a high pitched squeal. I tried various types of caps of the same value, and it did the same, so then I backed off to the .047uF and all is well....though as they say, YMMV or your mileage may vary...silly saying eh...Johnne in Seattle
