First post here so I hope I am in the right spot.

I played a Fender Blues Deluxe today and I was blown away. The amp seems perfect for my needs (practicing, small gigs, occasional recording) but I have some concerns. I am moving into an apartment complex for college next semester and i don't want to be inconsiderate to my neighbors or roommates. I will have a private bedroom where I plan on keeping the amp but i'm afraid it will still be too loud. Will I be able to get a solid tone out of this amp without pissing of the neighbors or should I get something else. If you recommend an amp for me, I usually play blues/blues rock. Heaviest stuff i play is in the style of the Rolling Stones and Cream.

Thank You very much

I would go for a Champ or similar wattage tube amp if you're going to be in an apartment and don't want to use headphones.

Hi weehunt112,

Great amp that will have a very nice tone. You can certainly get a decent clean or driven tone from the amp at low volume, but maybe not as good as cranking it up. But, all things considered, a small inexpensive amp may be more conducive to an apt, especially considering the very real possibility of it being stolen, since it sounds like many people will be in and out of your apt, what with the roommates, assuming that they have friends also. I would get the BD and keep it at home or parents home for weekends/gigs, and take something smaller like maybe a C600, to college. The C600 would be a great little tube amp for blues/rock, and at $100 to $150 wouldn't be a huge loss if stolen.

+1

A few carefully-selected pedals with that amp should keep you sufficiently entertained and add some sonic flexibility.

Read my thread on my BDRI tube experiments to get the best out of the amp at home levels:

If you have your heart set on the BD, there is a product made by Omnisonic (and a few other companies) called the Volume Box. It goes in your amp's EFX loop and acts like a master volume, allowing you to turn your amp up to a reasonable level (i.e. NOT to 10) and then dial back the volume. It is not an attenuator like a PowerSoak, MiniMass or a THD unit. I've used mine effectively with several Mesa Boogies and a HRD. Best $20 I spent (at the time). Here's the Omnisonic link http://omnisonicvolumebox.com/.

One thing to consider with a lower wattage amp, versus a higher wattage with volume box or attenuator, is speaker size. These smaller amps have smaller speakers and enclosures -- if you want to be able to get some of the characteristics of an amp being pushed to its limits, you'll want to just go with the smaller amp.

With me it's about the tone. I like to have good tone when I practice so if you like the BD get it. It's heavier and bigger and harder to steal than the 600:) Small amps sound small.

Volume sounds good low, it's just not fully saturated.

Depends on the venue!

I had my little 5 watt champ over at my church last night. Even on 4-5, it sounded wonderful and the acoustics of the place gave it some really nice reverb.

At the other end of the specturm, in my "music room" in my house, my champ will cause the floor, walls, and door to vibrate like mad.

BDRI in a bedroom is possible only if you have a lot of pillows and deaf neighborgs 8) may be earplugs fo you !

Basically the level is very difficult to control around 2 and at 3 it's almost full power. May be with an attenuator it's possible. :)

Absolutely untrue.

With my current BDRI tube configuration (V1=5751, V2=12AX7, V3=12AT7, and V4/5=6L6GCs) and plugged into input #2, I can set the clean volume on 6 and guitar volume on 10 and play without any loudness problems at all. This is with a Fender SCN equipped Strat. I plug my humbucker equipped guitars into input #2 also and use the drive channel set for low gain: 3 on the gain control and master set to 6. The tone is very sweet and bluesy with no volume control problems.

Those Omnisonic boxes are a waste of money (the BDRI already has a master volume in the gain channel which works great when set properly). I only play at home for fun and wouldn't trade my BDRI for anything! Well, maybe a 57 Twin or 59 Bassman.

Re-read my post. It is not that loud.

Proper tube selection and knowing how to set the controls works wonders with the BDRI.

5751 around less gain, #2 half gain, more usable in a house for sure ! Everything is possible 8)
However the 7ender default configuration makes this amp very loud that my experience even if I use it at home and I like it and won't change (may be a 57 deluxe)
Sorry to get you upset
