Hi. I recently bought a brand new Super-Sonic 22W but now I feel that the tone have changed on me. It's seems that it distort more now than it did before. It might be that I've started rehearsing with my band and we play quite loud but then again, I've played it quite loud before. One thing that annoys me too is that it's impossible to play the clean channel loud (around 6) without it distorting a bit. Overall I love the done in this amp but this is becoming quite a problem. Is there a way to make it distort less. Change the tubes?

I've also noticed that the amp have started to smell burned when it's heated up. What can that be?

I've tried to plug in an external cabinet to get a bit more bottom end in the amp. It did work a bit but how does that really work. Isn't it hard for the amp to drive an extra pair of 12"?

One last question. How does the loop function on the back of the amp work? You can control the loop with the footswitch so I tried to plug in a delay in the loop but that dropped the volume quite a bit.

Thank you!//Jacob

Most 22 watt amps will get into overdriven tones at 6 on the amp.

Well, I know that. But can you do something about it?

The effects loop of any amp (from any manufacturer) is a virtual "black hole" as far as volume and tone are concerned -- not a one of them worth a fiddler's fook IMO. Put your stompboxes up front.

If 22 watts isn't cutting the mustard for you, your problem is obvious.

single coils work best on the clean, like strat or tele anyday, My SG I have to keep the volume down. Glad I bought a Classic Vibe tele with a little 59 in it. Yes tubes help alot , well it will clean it up some. Loop works fine.

I use a strat with single coil. The thing is that the amp didn't sound this horrible before. I've checked it and on the clean channel it breaks up at 3 and if you play on the low E it just sound muddy. Almost like the cone was broken or something. I'm telling you guys. This ain't right. I even recorded with this amp and then I had the Gain nobs turn to 6 without problem. Now I can just have them at 2 or else it become a freaking metal heaven. I'm a bit pisst of right now. This amp used to be great. Now it just grinds my gears

change any tubes yet? change the v1 tube to a Tungsol, v2 Mullard reissue. Power tubes seated correctly? I would change the tubes that effects your tone and response of the amp.

Nope. haven't changed any tubes yet. This is my first tube amp so i dont have any tubes laying around. The thing is that it started turning sour on me when I started to smell burnt from the tubes. THey must be acting up.

Smells burnt? Yikes! That's not good. Have it looked at, pronto.

Your options (assuming that nothing is actually "wrong" with the amp) are to either get a higher wattage tube amp, play at a lower volume and mic the amp, or switch to a solid state amp.

Probably a good idea. It's my understanding that there's an unfortunately high defect rate on these amps....

Could only be a tube problem! Fender doesn't make tubes! Make sure your cables are all good too!

Are all of these amps super noisey at idle ( with nothing plugged in ) or did I just receive a bad one? The reverb is very noisey also. Any suggestions before I kick it back to MF?

It would really be interesting, if ALL these amps are noisy!!!

If somebody has a quiet Supersonic 22, please let us know here!
It's is interesting also, that no magazine review mentioned thie noise, so:
A) there a quiet ones out there
B) mag-reviews are worth s***
8)

I sent mine back for service, but it really would be helpful to know, if this can be fixed.
Otherwise I will have to start looking for another amp too....what a shame, Fender!
:(
