OK, right now I have a Blues Jr NOS, and i love the thing. But i'm kind of looking into a Egnater Rebel-30 with a 2x12 cab. or the Renegade 65 watt.with the same 2x12 cab. Does anyone have any experience with these amps ? If so, what are your thoughts, good or bad. This is something I'm looking to get by the end of next week, Ive checked them out but I don't have alot of experience with tube amps.
My biggest thing with them is the way you can adjust the wattage, which I find to be a plus. So what do you all think? Thanks all, Newwt

On your BJ you already know that if you put the master at 8 and the volume on 4 it sounds different than putting the master at 4 and the volume at 8 even though the two tones are somewhat similar in overall volume. So you understand that good tone is a function of balancing amp settings and that there are such things as optimal settings and worst settings. Since you are thinking of amps with more power but are not mentioning the other bigger HR/Blues amps I assume you want something that sounds different but louder. Two questions you have to ask yourself before choosing your amp are how loud do you want to be and how crunchy do you want to be. The amps you are suggesting have different power ratings. Tube amps have a tone sweet spot for a given amount of crunch. The sweet spot is a range of settings within which the amp sounds best and has favorable dynamics. If you stray too far outside that range of settings because you are too loud and need to reign it in or too quite and need to push it harder you can easily lose the sweetness for a given amount of crunch/drive.

So here's a general rule of tone to live by. If you like your tone to range from clean to slightly overdriven then you need a more powerful amp than if you like your tone to range from crunchy to over-the-top and still be at roughly the same overall volume levels. You need to think about who you will be playing with and where to get some idea of the volume you want to have.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Yes i understand this, my reasoning for the Egnatar amps I'm looking at is being abe to mix tubes(they have a dial to blend EL34's and 6L6's) and with the Rebel 30 adjust wattage between 1w up to 30w and on the Renegade switch between 18w and 65w.
