Right up until the point that the reverb tranny melts down due to a severe impedance mismatch.

Wow! Where do folks come up with this stuff?

Messing with the "goes-outas" and "goes-intos"!
Unless you have a fair understanding of electrical knowledge you shouldn't be messing with things like that. But, it's your amp...and money.

Buy a 6G16 stand-alone reverb tank.

I run two pedals at the same time to get a really nice, saturated overdrive from the vibrato channel, both by Way Huge: a Pork Loin overdrive and Swollen Pickle fuzz pedal.

I use a TS 808 with the overdrive set to 0 and the level as high as I want. I don't get any problems with that. I mostly play an ES through Vibrato channel two. After that if I ever need to go wild I have an Aria AOD-1 that must be 25 years old, I also set the overdrive to 0 on that.

I play in a our church band. I use an a/b pedal. Then I use the reverb/trem channel for my clean tone. And I use a line 6 pod in the normal channel. so I can get many effects, plus distortion. Works for me.

It's interesting to read that someone else is doing this as I was thinking of doing the same/similar thing: using an a/b box to go either directly into the vibrato channel or wet into the other. I really like running straight into the amp to play clean.

In that case, try to find an A/B/Y unit with true bypass-switching. That will preserve more of the pure guitar signal, both the tone and amplitude, and allow your amp to "breathe" naturally at its full potential.

I sold mine (again) and got myself a tweed 5E3 clone, best of both worlds, fantastic clean tones and sweet sustain and grind when you crank her up.

No don't throw me under the bus, i still have a ton of love for the DRRI, its just that the 5E3 doe right is about as good as it gets.

I never used the trem and don't need reverb with the 5E3

If I find the need for extra loud clean I'll pick up one of the many silver face twins that are forever on Craigs List, so far the 5E3 deluxe has done everything I've needed.

Talk about classic rock and blues tones !!!!

Yeah, I don't use the trem at all. I do love the reverb and would miss it if I had an amp without it. But, there are some really great reverb pedals out there now like the EH Holy Grail series and the Cathedral(my favorite). So, the lack of reverb wouldn't really be an issue for me. Also, I like having other options for reverb as well. I personally don't like spring reverb for overdriven tones, unless it was very mildly overdriven. I like a plate or hall type reverb for mid to high gain tones, if any reverb at all. If you listen closely to alot of your favorite recordings, you may be suprised to find alot of reverbs used in the studio are not spring reverbs from an amp at all. But, I still can't deny that the spring reverb in my Deluxe sounds wonderful: wide, spacious, lush. I do love my DRRI's reverb. I don't know what my point is really, except maybe that the lack of reverb on an amp shouldn't be a deal breaker when deciding which amp to purchase. The 5E3, as well as a myriad of other amps, have harmonic content and other nuance so complex that reverb of any kind could very well bury or lose what makes those amps so special.

You're not wrong.

You guys know I've long been a supporter of the DRRI and still believe it is one of the best production amps on the market.

This is my second try witha 5E3 and the only reason i got rid of the first was a lack of clean (headroom), this one that i have now has all the clean I want and then you get to about 3.5 on the volume and it gets sooooo sweet !!!!

There is so much "flavor" to the notes I can't imagine using a reverb, that being said I have used the holy grail with my bassman and it is a good one.

Sadly I never did put a weber 12A150 in the DRRI, I had one in this 5E3 within a week of owning it, I'm betting the DRRI would have gained a lot with that addition.

You'll install a 12A150 in your next DRRI.
