Well, I didn't get new tubes...yet. The amp is brand new (Blues Jr. NOS) and I love it, but I know how crappy the stock tubes are. I'm gonna play it awhile with the stock tubes, for at least a month, and then I'll put in a set of JJ's. So, on to my question. Does the amp have to be biased? Excuse my ignorance...I am not well versed in the inner workings of electronics. Been playing guitar for 16 years, have had a tube amp for at least 12 of those years, but never got into re-tubing an amp that needed to be biased until recently. After owning it for 6 years, this summer I had my HR Deville biased when I had new tubes put in. My 5150 was just plug and play, so no biasing was necessary. Is this the case with the Blues Jr? Just curious.

I did try the search feature, but didn't find an answer.

The stock BJr has no bias adjustment. Just plug in your new tubes and go. I wouldn't call the stock tubes "crappy" though; after all they are giving you the sound that you love now. I wouldn't be too quick to get rid of them, they are likely the Sovteks and are rugged tubes that can take the BJr heat well. I got a couple of years out of my GT white label output tubes before they started showing signs of too much heat. They still worked fine when I changed them, but I went with the GT EL84 S red labels for a different tube response.

IMO the BJR is biased way too hot from the factory and is punishing on output tubes, so I added a bias pot to be able to adjust to a more reasonable level, among some other mods. But you may want to give your amp some time, before changing your tubes. If you do change tubes, get some that are rugged and well built. I have also used 7189 output tubes, they are supposed to be some of the toughest EL84 types that you can get, and I think that they sound great. :)

Por favor, disculpe mi español, no se llega a la práctica con mucha frecuencia.
