I'm just gonna start off another thread dealing with what types of tubes you guys use and how they sound...that is the combination of the outputs/preamps or whatever combo you think sounds the best!

Heres my current tube list for my Crate Vintage 30

4 - JJ Electronics EL84's
3 - TungSol 12AX7's

It sounds great but lacks the low-end a little bit but hitting any power chord it just sings...i notice myself letting those chords ring out longer then they should...just because you can taste it...

lets see what everyone else is crankin it up with!

I'm using the Eurotube JJ's also. They sound much better than the Groove Tubes I was using before.

Some rare gems like Mullard EZ81/6CA4s.

I also like the JJs EL84s, EH 12AX7s, I think I have a couple of NOS Sylvanias and a Tung Sol 5U4GB awaiting the perfect project.

I have a Fender Blues Jr. and the tubes I use are early 60's Mullards. I put a '65 RCA 5751 in V-1 to take the edge off the gain.

The 5751 is known as the Blues Tube. SRV used a 5751 in his amp.

Having tried just about every combination of tubes known to man I have come to the conclusion that NOS tubes blow the doors off of today's production tubes for all the tone tubes in an amp. For driver tubes, reverb tubes, etc. stock tubes are more than fine. For Fender amps NOS USA tubes like GEs, RCAs, and Sylvanias are fantastic. The most noticeable sound change will be in replacing V1 and V2 and the last phase invertor tube (the tube closest to the power tubes). Next would be the power tubes. RCA power tubes are amazing!

I have not been playing that long, but I going to upgrade from a practice amp to some kind of combo. I kind of like the Crate V50 112. I was just curious as to where you get tubes and if they are readily available? :?:

Don't want to sound like I'm advertising but I use ebay and Brent Jesse as good sources for NOS tubes. New in Box NOS tubes are the best if you can get them. If you're going for a tube combo cannot say enough good things about Fender's Reissue '65 Deluxe Reverb. Killer amp!

Just to add to all this madness; I'm also at the point of re~tubing my Blues Junior. I've seen that there's a website that claims to match 12AX7's to it's place in the signal chain within certain desired sonic qualities...i.e.; matching bright sound/low compression to V1, or quiet/ early distortion to V3. Has anyone seen or delt with this fellow/company?

I don't know what company you mean, but a good supplier will have the knowledge and the equipment to test his stock. And can then recommend certain tubes to help you achieve your tonal goals.
