after coming from the high gain amps , this is nice that I can take it anywere! I did have a few combo's in the past and now i wanted something more modern sounding. I looked at vox ac 30 its like its not bad but I need more gain. When I heard the fender and its like damm. clean bright and clear! loud also. I heard a band and the guitar player was using a blues deluxe, i had to ask him if he was using a pedal he said no it was the amps distortion! he was playing a strat through it and it sounded heavenly :)

Drive is ok but More Drive I don't like. At least not right now. Maybe once things settle into place.

it's exactly the same amp...just 20 more watts and an extra speaker. Not very Portable, though. It's a heavy piece. My HR Deluxe was way more portable. I think you were smart getting the deluxe.

If you want the portability, get the HRDlx and the External speaker cabinet. Great bass response according to what I've read and I believe it is closed back. Same physical size as the HRDlx so you can stack it.

The 112 cab is designed to go with the HRDlx and BDRI. Just stick your amp on top, plug it in and stand back. Oomph! It doesn't weigh much and is a more flexible option that the 2 x 12 Deville.

To the original poster: enjoy your new amp! I've had two HR Devilles and a Blues Deluxe and never had a bad moment, so when the Hot Rod knockers start in (and they will) don't let it bother you!!

I have a TC electronics nova system with some nice effects, im playing with the eq now, got a more fatter bass response! on the drive ill get some tones up soon. clean channel doesnt need anything! I have not loud yet with the nova so I might have to adjust later, its more fuller for sure and added a couple more db's to the single

I see were fender got there distortion from lol, my vox ac4 tv8 sounds pretty similar to the fender on its gain channel. The fender is cleaner more though. Has that loose distortion.

Possibly, the previous models were considered to be biased very cold. What is the bias setting on your amp now?

Hi ken361,

The bias adjustment is for the output tubes, no adjustment necessary when changing only preamp and pi tubes. I would be interested to know where the bias is set on the HRDlx III, considering that the previous versions have been considered to be biased cold (meaning low idle wattage) from the factory. But, if you want to try adjusting anything as is usually necessary when changing output tubes, be aware of the lethal voltages inside the amp, as the adjustment and measurements are made while the amp is plugged in to electricity and turned on. Be safe!

I have the first gen HRDlx, great amp, and the III is improved, awesome for you! There is only one bias pot, it is a round blue slotted adjustment, located near the middle, lower edge of the big main circuit board (unless they moved it :o ). Maybe you can see it in the first picture below, close up in second picture (adjustment on left), although your amp won't have the metal heat sinks on the resistors and zeners, I put those on. The third picture shows the bias test point location on the left hand side of the tube socket circuit board at the bottom of the chassis. And, check the first link for the schematic for the previous HRDlx versions, it will be nearly identical to your amp. The second link shows a "How To" video for bias adjustment. If you take the back panel off for a look or to adjust the bias, it would be cool to post some pics of the inside of your amp. :)
