take a pic and post a video!! We love pictures!!
I bought an original HR Deluxe in 1998...loved that amp. Sold it, and about a year later, I bought a HR Deville. Still wish I had a Deluxe...so much more portable.

Hi ken361,

The bias adjustment is for the output tubes, no adjustment necessary when changing only preamp and pi tubes. I would be interested to know where the bias is set on the HRDlx III, considering that the previous versions have been considered to be biased cold (meaning low idle wattage) from the factory. But, if you want to try adjusting anything as is usually necessary when changing output tubes, be aware of the lethal voltages inside the amp, as the adjustment and measurements are made while the amp is plugged in to electricity and turned on. Be safe!

I have the first gen HRDlx, great amp, and the III is improved, awesome for you! There is only one bias pot, it is a round blue slotted adjustment, located near the middle, lower edge of the big main circuit board (unless they moved it :o ). Maybe you can see it in the first picture below, close up in second picture (adjustment on left), although your amp won't have the metal heat sinks on the resistors and zeners, I put those on. The third picture shows the bias test point location on the left hand side of the tube socket circuit board at the bottom of the chassis. And, check the first link for the schematic for the previous HRDlx versions, it will be nearly identical to your amp. The second link shows a "How To" video for bias adjustment. If you take the back panel off for a look or to adjust the bias, it would be cool to post some pics of the inside of your amp. :)

Thx! My old engl had a set bias like that with just one pot, we tested it and I just had to turn it up some to get it hotter. So im thinking the same for this since its one pot.

Still lovin' the HRD III. Not sure I've finished breaking it in yet. Gets better all the time.

Around 20 or 25 hours and your speaker should start sounding muy simpatico.

Rawk On!

cool guys glad you like it, theres mixed reviews on the gain channel. I higher gain my tele with the little 59 wants to squeel but I have to turn the gain down some, have to see how the les paul and the SG do! I replaced all the preamp tubes with a RFT in the v1, v2 EI v3 Sovtek lps sounds more smoother and more low end.

after coming from the high gain amps , this is nice that I can take it anywere! I did have a few combo's in the past and now i wanted something more modern sounding. I looked at vox ac 30 its like its not bad but I need more gain. When I heard the fender and its like damm. clean bright and clear! loud also. I heard a band and the guitar player was using a blues deluxe, i had to ask him if he was using a pedal he said no it was the amps distortion! he was playing a strat through it and it sounded heavenly :)

I'm glad you are liking it, Ken. These amps are extremely popular, and rightly so. I don't understand why some people on other forums bash them so much. Yes, they are a lower cost tube amp. But, by no means are they cheap. They are a somewhat entry level Tube amp, but I've had 2 different Hot Rod Series amps in the past 12 years (presently a Deville), and along with other tube amps, this one is still a favorite of mine. I would hold this amp up to an expensive botique amp any day of the week, and twice on Sunday. They are great amps, and I hear the III series is even better.

it's exactly the same amp...just 20 more watts and an extra speaker. Not very Portable, though. It's a heavy piece. My HR Deluxe was way more portable. I think you were smart getting the deluxe.

Yes, both are HRds. The 60-watt HRDvl comes in either 2x12 or 4x10, while the 40 watt HRDlx is only the 1x12. Both designs are very similar, pretty much the main difference between the DVL and the Dlx besides the weight, is the OT is beefier and the Plate voltage is higher in the Dvl.
