Arjay, Do these sound samples sound accurate enough to compare these speakers?

I like the overdriven sounds from the C12K, going off these sound samples, much more vs. the P12Q. The C12K brings a bit more of a Hendrix vibe to its tone.

Neither of them sound bad. And you might be right about the Hendrix vibe re the C12K. It is a skosh more "throaty" and "raw".

Arjay,

Are those JBL D120's? I have always wanted to hear them. Are they the original all around, or did you have to re-cone? I have JBL home stereo speakers from the 1970's. When one went bad, I purchased a craigslist replacement. I will NOT listen to music in my house on anything but JBL. The speakers in those cabs are all AlNiCo.

Getting a D120 on ebay costs alot. I'm afraid of getting some clunker that's all played out. What new stuff from Weber and Eminence (or others) captures your JBL's best? I'm leaning Weber California Ceramic (I live here, and figure it sounds "west coast", but I don't have enough experience to know). Would the Cali AlNiCo be closer to your D120's? I actually like (not love) the Jensen in my 2005 DRRI now, but ............ well, I'm not sure if this is politically correct ......... I'd really like something "Made in the USA" in the DRRI box (without spending more than $120, lower is better). And finally, some of the internet garble has the D120's sounding thin and "ice-picky", with no bottom warmth. Is that bull?

Edit:
Took a second look at that cab, Arjay. Thinkin' those might be 15's on the JBL's. Am I right? Can you still advise on the 12 inchers please? And, if those are 15's, how much does that cab weigh (aren't AlNiCo's less weighty than Ceramic?)?

Indeed, they are fifteens -- JBL's D130F.

They weigh about 16 lbs each (11½ lbs of which is solid alnico alloy). Total weight of the Dual Showman cab, approximately 67 lbs.

Somebody (wisely or not) had installed casters on that cab at some point during its "journey" from 1965 to the present. When it passed to me I decided to keep them while I was doing the restoration it since the holes for the sockets had been drilled all the way through the bottom of the case and the lower interior cleats. Thus, they aren't "original" in the strictest sense of the word but they sure come in handy......

The 12-inch D-120 weighs in at 14½ lbs.

Has anyone heard a modified Fender reissue like this?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fender-1965-Deluxe-reverb-handwired-PTP-ALESSANDRO-/330730174368?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4d010df7a0

It's definitely cheaper than an original (and probably more reliable) and only slightly more expensive than the stock DR reissue.

I paid $1400 for a near-mint '68 Deluxe Reverb last August. And if/when I flip it I'll likely get every penny of that back (prolly more). No way is an upgraded re-issue going to hold any value. And based on my experience with them, I wouldn't expect them to be any more reliable than an original.

Of course it's your money though......
