I've done a bit of reading to compare the 65 deluxe reverb against the FSR version. Correct me if I'm wrong but, the only differences that I've noticed is the color of the tolex and the choice of speaker. Now, what would be the advantage of replacing the 100 watts C12K for a 40 watts P12Q.

You'll have a warmer, more organic tone with the P12Q -- especially so once the speaker is fully broken in. Frankly IMO all new DRRI's should be equipped with the alnico Jensen.

So, if I were to buy the '65 deluxe reverb, could I simply swap the speakers without any alterations to the amp?

Most certainly.

Unless you happened to choose a Celestion.

In that instance, you'd be required to remove four of the mounting studs in the baffle board since Celestion frames are stamped to accommodate only four fasteners.

I prefer the warmer weber ceramic magnet speakers though, for more west coast sounds.

And the new Jensen's really aren't that great no matter which one you with.

Arjay, Do these sound samples sound accurate enough to compare these speakers?

Indeed they do.

The P12Q sounds particularly tasty.

The instrument is obviously a Strat but I'd be curious as to how many hours of use the speaker has -- definitely not straight-out-of-the-box bright/shiny brand-new.

Great link to the sound clips, is it just me or does the c12k sound warmer than the p12q? Personally, I'm digging the ceramic speaker better for fenders, but hey to each his own. They seem to have more of that Jimi Hendrix type sound, very cool.

I enjoyed the P12Q but if you have need of a 100-watt speaker, the C12K is it (at least as far as Jensen's re-issue line goes).

One option is a NEO magnet speaker they are lightweight and can handle 100watts. Eminence, Weber, and Celestion may have some. Another option is the wide variety of used vintage speakers on the ebay.

I like to homebrew the West Coast Ale. Great summer brew, fermentation temperatures in the mid 70s.

Ventures all the way.

If I had to actually hump the damn things on my back to and from gigs, my amps might have the neo-dyms.

But since I have an automotive conveyance to transport a vast array of cargo in relative comfort, I believe I'll just stick to these......

My tone demands it.
