I am seeking the advice, comments, and opinions of fellow forum members. What would you do?
I am thinking of having my twin reverb reissue converted to ptp. Is this a good idea? Would it help with the resale value if I were to ever sell it? Is $500 a competetive price to have it done? I have a certain individual in mind to have the work done, but does anyone here have any other recommendations on who can do the work?
The more comments and advice given, the more comfortable I will be with my decision. Just so you know, I paid $400 for the amp so another $500 wouldn't be too bad, would it? Oh and one more thing, will the difference in tone be negligible?
Thanks in advance.

First of all you got a great deal on a Twin at $400. Most of the time you'll spend at least a couple hundred more. As to the tone question many variables can effect that. Personally unless you really don't like what you are hearing now I wouldn't do it. I don't think you'll see a significant difference. One of the advantages to ptp wiring is the durability but most people are very satisfied with the reissue amps tone. I have a DRRI that is pcb and a friend has an original with ptp and there is very little difference. If it were me I wouldn't invest $500 additional in a reissue only to find it about the same. Factors like the speaker age, caps, tubes etc. in my opinion will have a greater effect on tone than just switching to ptp. I wouldn't invest more in it,you bought it under the money and I would keep it that way.

I actually do love the way it sounds right now. That's why i'm on the fence with this one. I won't do it if all its going to do is make it easier to service.
Thanks again.

+1

For the nine-bill total investment, you could buy a PTP silverface TR outright.

Waste of time and money, particularly if your intent is to sell it. You would be kidding yourself if you expect to get back all of your investment. PTP does not produce magic tone compared to a well designed PCB based amp contrary to what some people claim. If you were to replace every single component with a much higher grade part you might hear an improvement. Just because you convert it to PTP does not give it any special pedigree that would increase its value.
