I bought a Cyber Twin when they first came out years ago. I didn't care for it. I'm assuming they are better now. I think they were solid state back when I bought it.

How are the tones now? SRV, Hendrix, Zep, classic rock, blues? Does it sound too much like every other multieffect pedal or amp, or does it have that good old Fender tone too?

I also see them for sale from $500-$600 or even cheaper sometimes. That's a big drop in price.

The reason is so obvious, you don't even need a secret decoder ring to figure it out......

i own several of them. i happen to like them cause i know how to set them up. the SE's are my favorites. as for the price, the SEs are bargains. as for the technology, well beyond any amp i've ever used, incredible wide range of great tones.

but don't, i repeat don't buy one if you expect the amp to sound great just by turning it on. it won't because almost all of the factory setups suck. if you're a thinking person not afraid to dive into the SE's capabilities and shape your own music, then you'll get a lot out of the amp. the "entry price" is the investment of your time to learn. if you don't have the patience for learning, then pick some other amp that sounds "good" the instant you turn it on.

plenty of other "instant on good" amps around, from line6's, to JC-120s to (gasp, is Mr Dude around???) some toob amp like a silver face or something like that. maybe even a laptop preamp + pa...

yo, Mr Dude, how have you been??? lonely guy here missed you some.

ciao,
johnny.

I've owned a Cyber Twin and played on a couple others (friend's, store). I don't care if it's user friendly or not, if it sounds good or not, because the problem with the Cyber Twin is simple: NOISE!!! It should come as no surprise to anyone that with that much convoluted digital circuitry there is going to be a lot of noise, and there definitely is. It's alright for quieter rehearsals and practicing but you're in trouble if you try turning it up more. Also, the effects are not higher notch. Anyone with a decent pedal setup will know this right off the bat. Buyer beware.

Dammitt Ross, now you've gone and done it......Johnny Static is gonna come back here in "high PRF mode" and any semblance of peace and harmony within this thread will have wilted away faster than the Sore/Loserman presidential ticket after Algore claimed to have invented the internet!

Why'd you hafta go and do that???

amazing how the loudest and most opinionated "gentlemen" who have never used a SE but have sooo much to say. a stunning display of their open and honest contributions. maybe in a manure farm.

i own a bunch of SEs and the only "noise" is the stuff that single coils pickup. the SE's are very low noise and if you want dead quiet you can set the SE's built-in noise gate to kick-in at low input signal levels. gets real quiet.

oh, the luddites might not understand noise gates. it's like pulling the tubes & throwing them away, that's how you get a low noise toob amp.

ciao,
johnny.

Actually ....
They do have two (that's 2) preamp tubes.
(But, as for the power amp - it does not use tubes.)
Just saying ...

.... and .... I have a Cyber-Twin SE, and find it very useful.
(Since most lead work is vocals, about the only people that even notice your "tone" are other guitarist. Oh well ... )

And now, returning you to your regularly scheduled argument ....

yep, there are 2 tubes in the pre-amp section. that's the beauty of the SE, you can select tube preamp, or ss preamp. there are significant tonal differences, not that one is better than another, just different, and picking one depends on what you want & what fits your music.

the SE's are great amps, you just gotta get to know them a bit.

The Cyber Twin I played in the local guitar shop was in fact a SE and if anything it sounded worse than the original. As for the noise gate button.. Are you kidding me, man? They should have named it the "tone suck" button. Why do you own "a bunch" of SE's anyway? Were people selling them off for dirt cheap? As I mentioned earlier. I've made the mistake of purchasing a cyber twin and I got to know it far more than a little bit. I tried so hard to like it, but the only conclusion I drew from it was the fact that I could have bought hundreds of amps for half the price that blow it out of the water. This is my opinion. You have yours. People deserve to hear both sides. To each his own.

Thanks for the heads up on the Cyber Twin.
Buddy Guy said he liked the way the CT could duplicate his rare tone. But he also so stated he would not use on for studio recording. I'm not much of a fan of his "Sound/Tone" but I dig his style of play.

I use 2 or 3 se's simultaneously. I also have the original CT. I got used to working with the SE's and like them quite a bit.

Like I said, the original factory tones really suck. If that's what you used, not too surprised you weren't happy and walked away. The factory settings exaggerate the effects too much. To get the tones you want, you really have to edit the presets and save them in your Player's Lounge. It really helps to have the software to so it with.

I have no idea what you are talking when you say noise. My experience is quite different from yours, yes, there's always a bit of noise and usually from single coil pickups. Yes the noise gate works exactly as advertised, useful only when amps are cranked above 5, otherwise not used. No the noise gate is not a tone killer, I can tell by that comment you really don't know what you are talking about. If you want to test the "noise" of an amp, short the input jack and crank up the amp, then tell me about the "noise".

Once you figure out how the setup the se's, you can program several of them and control them all with the foot controller. On stage or studio, you can callup al three amps & their settings with one tap (or two) on the foot controller. Or you can set up a sequencer to do that for you.

now for a little diversion:

no they don't use SE's but who cares, these guys/gal are pretty good & i wanted to share that with you.

ciao,
johnny.
