Would it be crazy to get the DRRI and then get a 2x10 cab rated at 8 ohms and run it through the cab? I'd have a 12 inch when needed and the 10 inch sound I want.

Why not merely buy a new 2 x 10 baffle for a DRRI and be done with it? There's ample room within the cab to accommodate a pair of your favorite tens (16 ohms each).

Just a thought......

What are some of the top Fender 2x10 and 4x10 amps produced? I see the Deville 4x10, Bassman, Super Reverb, Vibrolux, etc..

You've mentioned many already. I'd add the early brownfaces -- Super (2 x 10), Vibroverb (2 x 10), Concert (4 x 10), and the extremely rare Bandmaster combo (3 x 10).

[quote="Vidarr"] Does Fender make a slightly larger version of this amp?

They don't make a larger version of the SCXD but here's what I did.

SCXD = $300
Extension cab 1X12 = $99
Eminence C-Rex = $80
Total = $479

The high sensitivity 12 inch speaker takes this amp to a whole new level and is well worth the extra bucks.

Your description is fine, Snowy. I appreciate all the help.

So I played the through Super Champ XD again last night in the studio and wow, such a great sound, very warm on the high end without that ice pick feel I've been getting.

So I really think the 10 inch speakers have a lot to do with the sound - punchy, tight, cuts through the mix, stays out of the bass range and good for the country alt I'm doing. But I also want to get an amp that's versatile. I haven't played the DRRI yet and I'm thinking it may have the sound I'm looking for. Would it be crazy to get the DRRI and then get a 2x10 cab rated at 8 ohms and run it through the cab? I'd have a 12 inch when needed and the 10 inch sound I want.

Both the SCXD & the DRRI have raving reviews from their owners. I've also been considering one or the other. IMO, the DRRI is an amp least necessary to mod. You're going to have to try it out. On the other hand, the SCXD, even w/a speaker mod, which quite a few owners do, would be considerably cheaper. Either way, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Cheers

I have an SCXD and really love that amp. It is to the point that my other amps sit and collect dust. Some guys do not care for the hybrids but I tend to embrace them because you get the best of both worlds IMO. I am in the middle of a extension cabinet build right now for when I need to move a little more air but I won't mod this amp. I also like how it takes pedals really well. Good luck and let us know what you finally decide to get!
ABS :D
