I was at PGS in Portland today and they literally had stacks of the wine colored 65 DRRI's in the store. I didn't have a chance to play thru one though. Maybe I'll try and get over there tomorrow. I have a std. DRRI - just got it new a couple of months ago. It would be nice to play them side by side.

Assuming all other factors are equal, I'd posit that the P12Q would produce a warmer, more organic tone. Likewise, its 30-watt voice coil would be significantly closer to the break-up point with the amp's maximum output applied than the 50-watt C12K under similar conditions. The definitive test would be to play both of these amps with the two speakers fully broke-in.

Frankly I don't know why all DRRI's aren't equipped with the P12Q......it seems like a "no-brainer" to me.

^ So is the stock DRRI Jensen going to give you more clean headroom? Arjay - what kind of speaker is in your DRRI?

The speaker does not determine an amp's "clean headroom"......that's a function of the output tubes and tranny. But the stock C12K will deliver less cone break-up than the lower-rated P12Q.

My Deluxe Reverb now does its "talking" through a fifteen-inch JBL D130F.

Nice! 15" speaker - that's gotta sound huge! I've always wanted an amp with one of those - like the Peavey Delta Blues.

A buddy of mine used to own a Delta Blues. I may have subconciously re-discovered how huge a fifteen sounds when I heard him playing it onstage about ten years ago. Plus, I always had a soft spot for the Vibroverb. Thus was born my "Spankmaster Reverb".
