Hello Everyone,

First and foremost I would like to say hello to everyone as this is my first post. I am currently in the market for a new amp and am torn between two. The first being the blues jr. III and the Vox AC15. I know the Vox is made in China and from what I have been reading on the boards is not favored by many here. I have heard the both of them and I cannot seem to make a decision. From what I have been reading on the internet the Vox seems to be more versatile as it can be used with different pedals and all. Yet I love the clean sound on the blues jr. The sound I am going for is more towards blues, country, and rock. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again.

Go with the Blues Jr. III. It works great with pedals. You may want to change the speaker. I bought the special edition version that came with a Celestion V30. The ProGuitarShop guys over in Oregon thought it was the perfect sonic match for the Blues Jr III. I completely agree. It has quickly become one of my go to amps. It has a lot of clean headroom, and can get plenty of dirt for blues, country, or rock. I do like my AC15, but the Blues Jr. III is nudging it away.

Remember, it ultimately comes down to the player in this type of decision. I'm simply just letting you know my observations.

Hi Humble1,

I say, go for the BJr. I have a BJr, previous to the III (MIM chrome panel), and I think it is a great amp that does well with pedals. I modified mine to be an even better amp that is much more versatile than before, and with the mods I don't even need pedals anymore, great sound, both clean and driven. Check out this site for some info and ideas about the BJr, and possible upgrades/mods. :)

Yep, it seems like you answered your own question. Try them both side by side if you can. China? Mexico? What's the difference? Fender makes stuff in China too. I would get what suits your style of playing, not what people say on the forum. It's a Fender forum, how many Vox fans do you think you'll find here?

Personally, I have an Egnater Rebel 20 and find it more versatile than any of the HRD series amps. And yep, It's made in China, and I've been gigging with it for over a year with zero problems. There are many different levels of quality coming out of China. I'm a geezer too and have been playing Fender amps since the mid 1960's. Get what suits your style, people here can't hear through your ears.

Blues Jr is a soundly 7ender amp, you're right we are on 7ender forum, I just wanted to say that the british sound may also be interesting.

I have both Fender and Vox amps and the Vox AC15 has delicious clean sounds that I actually prefer to the Blues Jr. and both sound great when overdriven. The AC15 is a lot heavier and more solid than the Blues Jr. so that should be taken into account too. If given a choice I think that I would give the AC 15 a slight edge due to the chimey clean tone. The Celestion speakers are the best way to go with the AC 15, they sound great when clean or overdriven.

IMO, Vox and many other amps such as Orange, Hiwatt, Egnator, Bogner, etc., probably do the British sound as well as any high end Marshall. The Blues Jr. may be a fix between the British sound and the Fender sound with a British sounding speaker like the V30. But of all amps only Fenders with 6L6 or 6V6 can do the Fender sound with a good JBL, Weber or Jensen speaker.

+1

Arjay (who also considers the CTS alnico 10" to be a "Fender" speaker)

Do yourself a favour and try out the Traynor YCV20. My buddy picked one up used and it's an awesome sounding amp! Roughly the same size as a BJ but totally blows it out of the water.

Lets not forget Mesa Boogie, I saw GC selling the 5:25 for about $900. Is it worth it?
