Does anyone have a Hot Rod Deluxe wit the Jensen speaker and find that the TS909 tube screamer, mine is anolog man is just too bright and edgy with amp and speaker? I would apreaciate any thoughts on this, I mean this pedal is apparently the holly grail and i just aint feelin it with my amp and speaker! Before anyone comments and says the hot rod a shitter i have it sorted. It sounds perfect with out the pedal now but thin and edgy with it.

Apparently you don't have it "sorted".

I suspect the pedal. Try a Pro Co Rat, a Digitech Bad Monkey, or a Fulltone OCD instead.

+1 Arjay.

OZ RV, I had the same issue with my Carvin Vintage 16. You may have to go extreme with the tone controls and max the bottom, mid the mids, and drop the highs, or impliment a EQ, and/or try what Arjay suggests and try a different OD. The down side to the extrem EQ setting is when you switch the OD off the sound is Fu*&@ed.

Anecdotally, I am hearing of seemingly an entire batch of Tube Screamers that exhibit the tones described in the initial post......screechy, edgy, hard to tame with an amp's onboard EQ controls. It's possible the OP has one of these pedals.

I didn't have the Analog Man 909 but I used the ts808, and the OD tones were fair at best, but my amp needed some major EQing to have any kind of decent tone with the 808. Then I got a BYOC to tweek and problem solved with various internal pots for mids, gain, and external switches for boost, clipping and frequency boosts. Hence, amp sounded decent with pedal on and pedal off. Anyway, hope this helps.

Thank you for your valued opinion. I thought i was hearing wrong as i have been told by players i respect it is a great pedal but, Yeah your right i can sort of eq it to sound ok but then i ruin my amp settings. And when i get off the pedal my main sound blows.... I will try some others as suggested thanks again TTSC and Arjay....

If you know someone with a substantially older (or newer) Tube Screamer, ask if you can borrow it and see if the same symptoms occur when plugged into your amp. That should isolate where the problem lies.

The Fulltone OCD is more transparent than most OD pedals -- I use mine basically as a clean boost, especially when soloing with my bridge pickup.

Sounds really interesting, Going to far away from just natural break up and distortion would be a shame so sounds good.....Thanks for you time on this Arjay......

G'day mate,

Also have a look at a Cmatmods Butah, it might be what you're after. I love mine.
