Hey all,

New Here - I recently purchased a used Deluxe 112 amp. It sounds fine, but I notice it pops when it is turned off. Is this normal?

Much thanks,

Mike

My DeVille 410 used to do that back when it was new. I didn't think nothing of it. After a few weeks it just quit popping whenever I turned it off. I thought it was just dirty contacts on the switch and after using it for a few weeks it just worked itself out.

Do you turn the volume down/off when you turn it off? coz' sometimes it can be negative feedback fluxuations getting into the signal path. Also turning volume down before you turn the standby on -for the wam down perion before complete shutdown- will keep the valves in good nick for longer =] Oh yeah and your cone doesn't melt.
Result! x

Hi Mike,

Congratulations on your excellent find! I'm assuming you mean the 90s Deluxe 112 (transistor amp, 2 channels, reverb) in this reply.

I bought one of these new around 1995 and it started doing the same thing a few years ago. It hasn't done any harm so far so I wouldn't worry too much. I would only be worried about a monster pop damaging the speaker. I find with mine that it barely does it at all with the clean channel, maybe it does and I just don't hear it with the lower gain, but I've gotten into the habit of switching to the clean channel before powering down!

Enjoy the amp it rocks - surprisingly toneful and powerful for a wee old transistor amp!

I use a Peavey Studio Pro 112,and it does the same thing.More than likely,it's the way the wiring is set up in your house or apartment.Plug it into a power strip and you should be okay.

I just sold my Studio Pro 112 (great amp!) but I never had that problem with it, OR with my Fender Deluxe 112 amp. I do have that problem with an old (I meean OLD) Harmony 500 amp. A friend said it can be fixed w a capacitor added to the circuit. I won't bother, but I think it's a cap problem you have, not wiring/grounding or current..

 If you turn down volume on you're Guitar and the amp the pop will not damge the speaker cone, it won't go away completely but it will be alot less .

Mine has always done that. (the pop) I picked it up used as a backup and ended up using it alot more than expected. Its real lite and sounds good enough for open mikes and casual jams. I keep waiting for it to die but it won't do it. Its a real rock and roll ranger. I turn the volume down before I turn it off and it seems to solve the problem.

It should have a standby switch.
Use it.

The instruction sheet that came with my BD said to leave it in standby mode for about 30 seconds on power up, and to put it back into standby mode before power off.

Even in standby mine makes a slight pop on power off, but it is not loud and won't harm anything.
