It had biggg bottom BASS, the highs were purrfect. It dirtied up and immediately made me grin - and yes, it has a new home, my home.

Congrats, TB!

In the future, you may own other amps -- bigger, more bells and whistles, smaller, lighter, boutique, whatever.

But nobody I know has ever outgrown a Deluxe Reverb (or a re-issue). They're just......comfortable.

RAWK ON!

I noticed that noone has brought up the Princeton Reverb RI. I've never played one, so I don't have an opinion but I'm sure others here do. Yeah or nay? I thought about testing one out and possibly purchasing it in the past, but I think I'd just throw in the extra cash for the DRRI (which I have played and liek very much).

PEAVEY XXX 2-12 (great rock and blues amp believe it or not)
& now a DRRI

i certainly LOVE picking up that DRRI, i smile EVERY time i do....

I had a similar experience... ended up taking the first DRRI back. It was a combination of things, most of it has to do with the tubes and bias, so I would say not all tubes sound the same, even the same crappy GTs that come with the amp. Easily fixed IMO, throw in a set of NOS RCA, adjust bias to your liking and you will have one sweet amp that will have you grinning all day and nite! :D

Decent glass and a proper biasing job are imperative for great tone.

Arjay,
I'll pick your Brain for a minute...
With a 2 month old DRRI, should I be looking at replacing the glass and checking bias?
As always, appreciate your insight.

I would set tight on new tubes for the moment and merely have the bias checked and adjusted if necessary. Periodically the stock bottles don't sound half-bad once they're set to the correct operating parameters. My old DRRI (circa mid '90s) came with GT's which in all honesty sounded pretty good -- even better once I tweaked the bias for proper idle current. Later I did replace everything with all-NOS glass but I'm still using the original factory GZ34.

My vote on best modern FENDER amp being DRRI.
For its portability and sound- !!!
but just a point to bring up @@@@
not all brand NEW off the shelf DRRI's sound the same.
yes, that is what I said.
i found this out when i recently went to the music store and they had 3 new DRRI's and I played all 3. I always do this when i purchase something even IF it doesn't seem to make sense. I can understand when I went to buy my Taylor, seeing that they are all wood instruments, not factory line amps. Anyways I was pretty suprised how diff these 3 DRRI's sounded. WHOA! same C12K's, same tubes ( i checked even preamp tubes), same settings in the same temperature room ! Same geetar.... playing same licks without adjusting treble control on guitar....
----no wonder I was let down a few months back when i went to try one out after i realized how great these amps can be, I was completely confused when i left that day thinking wow, DRRI's are not as great as they say..!? After months of thinking, they have to be at least good amps or there would be NO hype?!?! So, I thought maybe I played a lemon or just a lime...I need to give these amps another shot...

I will say that 2 out of the 3 were great sounding, and yes 1 of them freaked me out !
It had biggg bottom BASS, the highs were purrfect. It dirtied up and immediately made me grin - and yes, it has a new home, my home. I am completely aware of the phenomenon that we guitarsist have happen to us occasionally, where the same pedal setup, or same whatever sounds diff on a diff day in the SAME room. But this all went down at the same time. i could really A/B them on the same circuit.
Now I can completely understand when forums discussing mods on DRRI's and some will say that the amp is perfect stock the way it is,,, cause some are.
just a lil' story about my trip.......

Consider that one of them was maybe biased cold and the other two warmer! Also same exact tubes will not all sound the same! Speakers are not all the same either! Just a fact1

I noticed that no one mentioned the Super Reverb reissue. Anyone have one of these? Other than the offshore Jensen reissued speakers situation, how else is this amp?

I've lusted for one of these since selling may BF, ten years ago. But, good used ones are hard to find and quite $$$$. And may still need updating on parts.

Thanks!

I tried one at GC! Loved it, at the time I didn't pull the trigger! Weight was a little more than I wanted! I settled for the SuperSonic 60 later when it was on clearance! Both amps sound good with a slight edge to the SRRI!

I've used the SRRI's at open-mic jam nights and they're a mighty respectable piece of gear. Heavy and a bit unwieldy, but worth the price of the ticket if you crave the legendary 4 x 10 vibe. Better still once the off-shore Jensens have been deep-sixed in favor of something like Weber's 10A125's or a quartet of original CTS alnico's as used in the original Super Reverb. My first brand-new Fender amp was a silverface drip-edge '67......

I have the SRRI and I love it , at the time
I picked it up I was looking for an amp I
could use as a base and bulid my tone with,
something that would let how I play shine
through (good or bad), an amp that would
force me to play better , the Super Reverb
is that type of amp. If you play well it will
reward you, hit a wrong note and you (and
everyone else) will now . I had a pretty
healthy budget at the time and and I tried
almost all the other amps while they had
good points the Super had the best compromise
of all the things I wanted cleans and dirt with
pedal 4 10 inch speakers instead of 1
12 or 2x12 middle of the road power
not 22 or 85 watts it cuts through like no
other amp. Funny thing is when I roll out
the MARSHALL the worship team gets all antsy
because thay think (based on looks) it is louder
but I think the super is louder. I run it on 4-5
and keep up with an acoustic, piano , another
electric player , a bass player and percussion
and they are all in the PA system

why am I am not mic'd into the system
you ask .... BECAUSE I DON'T NEED TO BE

FWIW JUST MY OPINION

Thanks, for all your responses. I've seen used SRRI for around $1K... think I'll look and listen into it. I love the tone of good 10-inchers. Esp for lead stuff. And there is something about the tone of dual 6L6GC driven with a tube rectifier. Glad that the SRRI doesn't betray its heritage.

I had a 75 silverface sr and liked its sound .You might want to check out used. Some of the silverfaces go for around 6-700.If you go with a 4-10 platform I personally would seriously check out the 59 bassman ri.I just recently sold one that I played out with, but needed something a little smaller ,hence the drri. But it is a great amp.Its a warmer amp imo than the srri.
