Actually, many of the FMI/CBS-era amps did not sound bad. And, unlike today's herd of "shake-and-bake" gear, the silverfaces could be modded to mimic the earlier circuit revisions without a total rewiring job. They also delivered trouble-free performance, usually for decades before requiring any type of servicing. My one-owner '78 Twin Reverb ran for twenty-three years on its original Fender-branded Westinghouse tubes.

Sorry to hear you had a run of bad luck, but I don't think your experience is typical. I've owned many modern era Fender amps without any problems. They do have some products that get complaints more than others, but 3 problems in a row is unusual. The SuperSonic and Custom Vibrolux both have a pretty good reputation. The hiss on the Vibrolux has been a problem for some users. On balance though I think they do a pretty good job and provide a good warranty. I currently own 6 modern era Fender amps including a reissue 65' DRRI, Hot Rod BJ(which despite some complaints I love), Cyber Deluxe, Super Reverb, and a GDEC3. You may want to check your power supply if two of the amps had a failure. I'll also agree with Arjay in that many silverface amps were pretty good. I had a silverface Champ, and Bassman, both of which were good amps.

My 76 Twin ran for over 30 years of heavy gigging without a hiccup.
