I don't own the amp yet, but from what I can find out online, the internal speakers are two x 8 ohm in parallel for a 4 ohm load. The owners manual states that if you use an extension cab, the total load, internal and external, should be 4 ohms, but doesn't state what the impedance of the cab should be to obtain this. Does plugging into the extension speaker jack then reduce the output at both speaker jacks to two ohms each in parallel, so you use a 4 ohm extension cab? How else can the math work?

Hi evets618,

You are correct, if you use a 4 ohm external cab with your 4 ohm internal speakers, the total speaker load would be 2 ohms. If you use an 8 ohm external cab with your 4 ohm internal speakers, the total speaker load would be about 2.6 ohms.

The recommended ohm load rating on the amp is simply for the most efficient operation of the amp (impedance matching), to get the most power out of it. It is perfectly fine to use an 8 ohm or 4 ohm external cabinet with the amp's 4 ohm internal speakers. You can even use the external cab plugged into the internal speakers jack, to maintain a 4 ohm load if you want. I know that many use an 8 ohm external cab with the internal 4 ohm speakers on this amp, and say that it still sounds great. Whatever speakers that you use, you have to have something plugged into the internal speaker jack to get sound out. :)
