Has anybody got any decent surf tones out of the Blues Junior? I know its not gonna be a DRRI but has anyone come close? Or does anyone play a separate reverb unit with one, like say a 63 reverb?

Replace the reverb tank with the Ruby tank sold by Mojo Musical. It's part number 3EB2C1B. It has much longer delay and richer, warmer tone. Very good for surf! Inexpensive, too.

If it's an older green board Blues Junior you'll need to do the reverb mod on my site. Google "Billm Blues Junior mods."

Go to a Guitar Center or other music store that has a Boss pedal display and try out a DD-3 (Delay/Reverb) to see if it gives you exactly what you are looking for. Hopefully they can let you try it on a Blues jr. amp.

Boss also make another Delay/Reverb pedal which I'm not familiar with, but you could try it too. You can get a rough idea of the sound of Boss pedals by going to their site (http://bossus.com/interactive/pd.html) and listening to various soundbytes, but a trip to a GC is best.

Nothing to lose but your time if you live close to a GC.

Thanks for the reply guys! I kinda got the feeling that the reverb tank might be a bit weak on those BJ's. Ill have to give the mojo ones a look. I have looked at your site before Billm its well done and very informative. In fact most of what i've learned from them have come from your site. I want to get a new tweed one so ill have the cream board. Do you know what kinds of mods void Fender's warranty? I love blues but have been falling into surf instrumentals lately and was hoping that the BJ could work for that kind of sound too.
Also I really do need to go to GC sometime, but the closest one to me is in Atlanta about 50 mi away, so ill just have to make it a weekend trip

You can change tubes, reverb tank, speaker without voiding the warranty. As soon as you change the circuit, you've given them grounds to void the warranty.

Oh cool! Well then I'll definitely be getting that ruby tank, it really is quite inexpensive. Thanks for all the help!
