Read the service manual:
http://www.blueguitar.org/new/schem/fen ... eissue.pdf

Use one hand only.

Don't touch anything inside the amp except the bias pot.

Buy a bias probe for maximum safety:

I always watch this one before I bias my Blues Deluxe. They're the same to bias.

Do not touch anything! Watch at the u-tube video on eurotubes website as he adjusts a deville amp - its the same essential design - be very careful opening the back. Ensure the amp is upright and you are not distracted! The power and standby are on when you do this - full power to the tubes.

If you are not comfortable - pay a tech the 50 bucks!

Above all, don't do this:

Bet he changed his shorts afterwards. I know I did when it happened to me.

so i take it that had that guy had made a circuit, say if his other hand was touching a metal object, he would have been killed

Maybe.

If the electricity passes through your heart there is a high probability of dying. Hence the "one-hand rule".

I only wear a watch, but I take that off before I even unscrew the back cover of my BDRI. 8)

just opened up my blues deville 212 to take a look

i can't seem to find the bias pot on the circuit board. it should be the same as the hot rod deville from the video i would think
i compared it with my blues deluxe reissue of which i found and recognized the adjustment pot very easily.

i'll post some pics of the board later tonight

towps,

I believe that the first version of those amps did not have a bias adjust pot ( Blues Deluxe/Deville). The pot was added to the later versions. Do you know what year your amp was made? If it had a bias adjust pot, it would be in the same place as the HRDlx and HRDvl, blue pot near the lower edge in the center of the main circuit board. You can add a pot, if you are comfortable modding the amp.

When these series of amps first came out (around '93?), they didn't call them a reissue. I guess that the next version was when they moved production to Mexico (around '03?), and they started calling them reissue. If yours is a US version, says "Made In U.S.A." on the plate on the back. Contact Fender with the serial number, and if it was made after 1993, they might have the info for the year made. Look for a QA sticker inside the amp cab, with two letter code on the last line. The first letter is the year, the second letter is the month. So for the first letter, A would be 1990, B 1991, etc. For the second letter, A would be January, B February, etc. Example, HJ is 1997,October. It looks like this.

Just FYI - replaced stock Groove Tube 6L6GC tubes with SED Winged C tubes from http://thetubestore.com/6l6gc.html. With the 12AT7 in the V1, I can get up to 4 on input 2 before break up, just over 3 on input 1. Amp is more articulate, smoother drive in clean channel when pushed- still not too fussy on the drive channel - but the amp has improved tone and cleaner. Set the bias at 70 mV. Expensive tubes but very well rated for Fender amps. As good as it gets maybe?

Now to rid me of the low frequency chassis vibration!!!!

If the metal ID plate on the back of the amp says "Made In USA" the amp is an origina lBlues Delux/Deville without a bias pot. If the ID plate says "Made In Mexico" it is a Reissue with a bias pot.

If they are a true 6L6GC (and not a relabled 5881), the Winged C tubes could be run hotter. I run my JJ 6L6GCs in my BDRI at 83 mV which works out to be about 36 mA plate current. You need to know your plate voltage to be sure you are sfae, but 70mV at the Fender test point is still pretty cold.

Try the 12AT7 in V2. That is how my JJ tubes are set up: 12AX7 in V1 and V3, 12AT7 in V2. Very sweet Blues sound.
