So I posted the other day about getting a new Custom Vibrolux Reverb amp, and I've finally had the chance to spend some time with it - cranked. I'm just floored by this amp! First, I need to point out that this is NOT a classic Blackface Fender. If you want that clean, shimmering sound, keep moving - nothing to see here. That being said, I've noticed the amp controls don't respond the way I'm used to (turn volume up, amazing tone ensues). That's not a BAD thing, it's just taking a bit of experimenting with different settings. Now, what is amazing is that the CVR REWARDS you for experimenting! This evening, my wife is out of the house, so that means I can really let it rip. I found things like plugging a Tele into the bright channel using the neck pickup actually works (usually if you touch the bright switch while using a Tele it will actually murder you). Second, things like using input #2 on the bright channel, and then jumpering input 1 over to the normal channel yields some incredible results. All the knobs interact in that mode and I hit upon a combination that was like a meat grinder - in a good way.

Anyway, really NOT your typical Fender amp, but sounds incredible! I can see why some guys get them and then immediately set out to convert it to a VVRI - they don't understand what the CVR is and is not. The only con I can see is that many of these tones are achieved at serious volume levels - which makes them questionable for use in a rehearsal or even small gig situation. Either way, I love it! Oh, and did some reading and discovered this was a Bruce Zinky design - cool!
