I saw Albert King in '69 and he was using an Acoustic 260 as well.

Then there is the small matter of Pete Townsend during The Who's "Sunn Coliseum" era......he and The Ox were each using four full stacks.

James Hetfield - Roland JC-120 for his cleans.

I saw George Lynch using a Randall RG100HT for a bit back in the 80's, don't think he endorsed it though, Dimebag also used that amp for the Cowboys from Hell era

both jimmy page and eric clapton use a pignose to record with.
ted nugent along with clapton have been seen using roland jazz chorus amps.
nothing wrong with a good SS amp. i own several of them. peavey made a killer
SS amp series back in the 80's. i own a fender princeton 112 plus. i like this amp too.
its a bit on the bright side, but i can get a good 80s metal tone out of it at walkman volume levels even. nothing beats a SS amp for crunch on demand at low to mid volumes.

Tom Scholz-Rockman SR&D....not to mention the hordes of pros that used the stuff when recording. Billy Gibbons and Jeff Beck come to mind

gibbons has tried for yrs to keep his rigs a secret, dont know why really.
his tone isnt anything special. its rumored that he also uses a valvestate 8008 i believe it is.

From what I've read Billy Gibbons has a ton of amps and guitars,so it's ridiculous to think he records with anything the same way even twice.

About anyone who is playing acoustic, since most acoustic amps are solid state. A big percentage of bass amps are also solid state. Solid state works really well for certain applications, like jazz, bass, and acoustic. For the type of stuff I play (blues) it will probably never replace tubes. I have heard some good guitarists using solid state however over the years.

nothing will replace tubes, only give another option to tone.

EDIT: removed ridiculously long gear list from the quote,it's just way too much to have to look at twice

If I ever "required" that much gear just to perform I'd shoot myself.

missed you too. yes... i'm back. i would be delighted to show you the light and introduce you to new tones. but hands on the controls, ok?

So what do think of the Edge's gear??? i know he'll spend days, if not months, playing the same chord in search of a sound in his head. he's the kind of artist that'll try anything to get at what he wants. an amazing & incredibly dedicated artist. i still think he should give the SE a whirl, just to see.

ciao,
johnny.

There's nothing wrong with well-built amps of any type, tube or SS. I really like the Jazz Chorus, myself. But they're not for me.

Johnny, we missed you!

Do I get to play with your knobs at least?

I suffer from ADD so I couldn't read the massive list  I'm not really an Edge fan so his tone doesn't mean anything to me...
