I believe it gives more preamp distortion because the preamp tubes are driven more and then the signal is reduced as it goes to the power tubes so the preamp tubes create the distortion.

This is my guess, I only know that this is what it does.

That is basically what I meant in my response, I just didn't word it very clearly. Yes, you have to turn up the clean volume or drive volume to get back to the same loudness level as before which could potentially overdrive V1 and V2. I still think a 12AT7 in V3 would be better overall than a 12AU7, though.

Hey Soneedaze, is that Epiphone Sheraton II born in China or Korea? The Chinese made ones have prolly some of the most random sounding pickups I've ever heard. The Korean ones are a bit better (esp the wood), but electrics on these guitars aren't the best, or most consistent.

It's a beech trying to replace the parts through the F-holes, but a good set of pup's and controls (pots and switches) sure goes a LONG ways to improving the tone. A friend has a Korean one with Duncan Alnico II Pro pups, CTS pots, good caps, and Gibson switch. The darn thing sounds very nice. Kinda Jazzy. Much smoother overdrive. I ain't saying it's like my 1962 Gibby ES-335, but it sure has a much wider range. Kinda sounds "Carlton" like. In other words, much better than stock.

May wanna think about this before diving into one pedal after another and multiple amp mods.

Just may 2-1/2¢ worth...

Bluesky if this amp are biased very cold , a hotter ( average) bias will give him life. Cold bias =sound is thin and brittle

True, except that the original Blues Deluxe does not have an adjustable bias unless the amp is modified to install a bias pot.

Another question...

I saw an original 50s Jensen P12Q for sale for 50 bucks. I'm thinking it might be worth checking out.

Thoughts?

Any ideas on what to expect?

Thanks for helping.

Thanks for this info. I just saw this post. Pretty sure it's the Korean one. Ya know, I looked at these upgrades. Everyone keeps telling me to just buy a new guitar as opposed to sinking any serious money into this one. Recently, I started exploring this again. I did lower my pickups last night but haven't been able to really turn it up yet. Curious to see how that sounds.

Thanks again for the input.
