I know that some folks here don't Like the Champion 600...but last night I was sitting in the living room just noodling away on my Strat through my Champion 600 and I couldn't help but really dig the sweet tube sound I was getting. Mind you, I had it on 4 and was just doing some technique practicing(volume swells) but this amp is really sweet sounding. I was wondering if anyone else has the same experiences with their's?
ABS :D

Funny you should mention that. I've heard several of these RI Champions and they all seem to sound different (stone stock). I've worked on a few to try and revive them... these all sounded "dead," no life, stock. And others I've heard sound pretty good without any help. Though that stock speaker is really pushed at max volume.

When you take one apart some of the answers lie in the variety of component manufacturers used on the circuit boards. Some had OD, some had generic caps, etc... so I think that maybe the reason for wide range of tonal response.

If you enjoy it the way it is, that's all that is important.

i play mine almost everyday
the only tube amp i own that i can play with tubes pushed
when my wife and kids are home, so yeah i love mine too
i find it sounds better for me in the bathroom with hard floors versus carpet in the bedroom
i keep mine on 12 and use my custom 22 with my guitar vol rolled back from 5-10 and
my pickup selector 1 back from full neck most of the time
i played a DRRI the other day and it sounded as sweet as my twin balckface, withOUT a BACKACHE--- the DRRI sounded so good cranked !!! Just wish it had a switch to bring it to say
7 or so watts, so i could crank it at home
the 57 champ is purfect x cept it needs a 12 inch speaker and just a hair more power so I can bring it to rehersals, i tried my champ 600 with the lil 6 inch speaker and like i thought, didn't cut it, so back to hauling my pro-tube twin~amp back and forth.
now that i am thinking about it, i DID unplug the internal speaker on my CHAMP 600 and plugged my 2-12" speakers that are inside my twin~amp into my champ and that was definately gigga ble volume.......
i really want a amp with :

a 5Y3 rectifier,
tube preamp
tube power amp
1-12" speaker
vibrato tube driven
reverb tube driven
low wattage, say around 7-10
lightwieght no more than 40lbs

ok, so YES, i went and tried a PRRI,
BEAUTIFUL sounding cleans but when i dimed it for some blues rock with my humbucker guitar - it just farts out..... thats with the bass knob on 1
it really needs the DRRI cabinet and speaker IMO.
or i need a DRRI with and a knob to adjust amp to 7 watts

ok i will stop now
peace~

I love my 600, I did a few mods.........I replaced the stock speaker with a Jenson Mod 6 and replaced all the tubes with Slovteks. My tele and Les Paul sound amazing through it. AND I also play my harp through it, I can really get some Chicago blues tones.

Best 150 bucks I have EVER spent.

If I want some REAL tone I plug into my Valvetrain Tallboy 205 with 2x8 inch Webers. There's not much that can beat it....IMO.

You really have to play to it's strengths..

It's the best sounding amp I've ever heard for crystaline, airy clean sounds. Use it with a compressor for top notch Knopfler tones or with a dash of chorus for instant Robert Cray. Exquisite.

But overdrive it - either by cranking or with a pedal - and I think it sounds absolutely dire. An utter fuzzed out mess to these ears

I really enjoy mine. It has great Fender style tones and my son can still sleep with it cranked in the basement :)
