Well, I just sold off my Fender 75 the other day and I picked up this bad boy tonight: Custom Vibrolux Reverb! I got an AWESOME deal on it brand new and I couldn't pass it up. I LOVE the early breakup of this thing. My H1 Strat with CS69's sounds ridonkulous through it!

It was either this or a 5E3 clone. I went with the CVR because of its unique sound and versatility - also, of the two, it was the only one I could actually try locally before buying. I don't like ordering instruments when I can't actually see at least a similar model in person first.

Anyway, the photos!

You have a nice one on the way too, Floyd.

Nice rig, PTM!

I love the smell of a new Fender blackface.

(applause!)

Thanks Arjay! I always wanted one with cream knobs.

I just got to try it out with my pedals. Takes to them wonderfully!

Some amps really need to have the preamp pushed hard to get to a nice drive. The CVR only needs a nudge and it's breaking up. My Barber 1/2 Gainer - which I've got set to just an "edge of breakup" sound on my other amps, just shoves the CVR over the cliff when the amp volume is still on "3". It's just a really cool tone and I'm looking forward to getting to know this amp as it reacts differently than anything I've played in the past.

The "hiss" that many players complain about is there, but I barely notice it. Not to mention I'm used to single coil noise to begin with so some background white noise doesn't even phase me. I love this amp for what it is - I'm not going to start Blackfacing it with mods.

If the hiss does become objectionable you might try a good low-noise 12AX7A or an NOS 7025 in your V1 and V2 positions.

Some of the CVR's seem to idle more quietly than others right out of the box.

I've read that a good set of power tubes seems to cure a good portion of the hiss.

Hey PT Man! How do you like that SRRI? I have wet dreams about that old BF I sold 10 years ago.

Best amp I ever had.

I love my SRRI! Beautiful cleans! I find it can be a bit bright at times though.

A speaker change might tame that.

You might try Weber's 10A125 with ribbed cone and light doping.

Either that or tubes. I've still got the stock GT's in there. It was my experience with an HRDv that a retube goes a long way to taming brittle brightness.

Be sure to check the power tube bias and adjust if necessary.
