Has anybody played these two comboes side by side?

I just tried the SS-22 and I was very pleased with the clean sound of it. Theres a lot of bottom end compared to the DRRI (just sold my DRRI) and I liked both the Normal and the Fat settings. The Normal was somewhat close to the DRRI and it fit very well with my Zendrive (clone) pedal while the Fat channel suited my T-Rex Alberta pedal great as the Alberta has less bottom end. The burn channel seemed a bit thin to me at first glance but sounded pretty good, I think you need to spend a little more time working with it to find the sweet spots.

Now I'm considering to get either the SS-22 or a used SS-60 combo and I am very interested in hearing how the Vibrolux/Bassman setting of the SS-60 sounds compared to the SS-22. I have been very impressed by all the YouTube clips of the SS-60 but I haven't played one yet. I'm mostly interested in getting those two great Vibrolux/Bassman signature sounds and add my own pedals to them while getting the bonus of having an effects loop that can be used as a solo boost.

thanks

JimR

I don't think you can go wrong with either one. The 60 watt one really wails. I love the "Burn" setting on thr Super-Sonics. It is an extremely versatile amp. Besides the wattage and the price difference, they seemed identical to me (with the exception of a couple of cosmetic differences). The 60 obviously costs a little more, but if you need the wattage, go for it. Otherwise, I think the 22 would be plenty...after all, it is a tube amp. I've found the wattage scale to be goofy because 20 solid state watts is definetly not as loud as 20 tube watts. If you are looking at these amps, I'm sure you are knowledgeable enough to be able to discern what wattage would be best. As for the differences, they are minimal. The 22 may distort a little earlier because of the lower wattage, but I think that is kind of cool. Lately I've been looking to getting an attenuator for my HR Deville so I can crank the clean channel and get that vintage sounding tube breakup purely by maxing out the volume, without blowing out my eardrums.
