Depends very much on how much gain (distortion) your musical preference requires.

Blues Deluxe Reissue is modest gain, while the HRD has substantial gain. The HRD was developed from the BDRI.

I can't speak on reliability, though there are quite a few negative comments regarding the HRD when you read reviews. I've had a few minor problems with my new BDRI (Bad original tubes- rattled; channel switching went out in the footswitch- warranty repair), so ?????

I must say I do love the sound of both my BDRI and also of the HRD's that I hear other performers use.

I owned a BDRI and it was awesome. Great warm sound and nice natural overdrive. Was VERY loud. So loud, I returned it as it made my ears ring when I played and I was using it as a home amp.

Tried out a mesa boogie express 5:25 and it is a nice little sweet sounding amp but lacks the clarity and tone of the fender amps in the clean, and its burn channel was basically a rock overdrive sound. Had a lot of hiss and while the build on the mesa was exceptional, I decided I preffered the fender sound.

I bought a Texas Red HRD with the vintage 30 in it and changed the tubed with mesa boogie 6l6 tubes and it is hands down the best sounding amp I have ever heard for clean and blues. I use the drive channel with drive at 3-4 for a nice blues sound and I use a Metal Muff on clean for a crazy metal tone. Sound is amazing.

I also read all of the bad reviews on the HRD AFTER I bought it so I was going to shell out the extra $150 for the DRRI but am afraid it wont sound as good as this Texas Red with the V30 and Mesa tubes! It really sounds like a $2500 boutique amp now. Of course it is not built up to the standards of a $2500 amp but the Blues Deluxe isnt either.

Between the Blues Deluxe and Hot Rod they are basically the same. BDRI is tweed and has a more classic look which I like. HRD has the drive and more drive though the "more drive" channel is not really the best sounding channel.
