hello, i have a hot rod deluxe blues amp. the only model number i found was pr 246. My question is: i bought a boss effect pedal and i want to hook it up> if i understand the amp instructions i take the pre amp ouput of the amp into the input of the pedal, and take the output of the pedat and attach it to the power amp in>

then i hook my guitar output to the normal input of the amp. is this correct?

Locate the "send" output on the guitar amp and run ¼-inch guitar cable into the first pedal you want in the effects loop.

Connect each of the effects pedals you want in the loop with short "jumper" or "patch" cables, if you would like to include additional pedals in the effects loop. Be sure to place each subsequent pedal in the "proper" order to maintain the tone and clarity. An ideal order is: equalizer; modulation, which includes chorus, flanger and phaser; delay and reverb.

Run a quarter inch guitar cable from the output of the last pedal in the effects loop to the "return" input of the effects loop.

Yes, you are correct. Preamp out is your send, and power amp in is your return.

hi what efx pedal is it? if its a drive or a wah its better to run it strait into the input of the amp rather than the efx loop... if its a delay or mod pedal then run it through the efx loop

Generally speaking, you are probably correct. But several effect pedal manufacturing folks, like Way Huge Electronics, recommend their particular analog delay pedal (Aqua $@!&), be in front of the amp. So, personal preference is involved.

+1 I rarely if ever use the effects loop.

it depends how you are using the amp... if you use the drive on the actual amp then u need to run the delay through efx loop... otherwise you get this distorted crap delay that dosnt sound like delay... if thats the sound your going for then great, if you are just running the clean channel of the amp and using other pedals for everything else then running your delay into the front of the amp is fine...

efx loops are tone robbers, no doubt, but ive found by running a full board of true bypass pedals recuces the efect...

For some reason I've never had much success with FX loops. I've always found the few mod pedals I have sound better in the front chain. Then again I run the amp at a clean level. For some reason when I use my phaser and reverb pedals in the effects loop it gives it a weird overly smooth and overly clean sound (if that even makes sense). I'm not sure how to explain it but it sort of makes the effect more blatant and less transparent in a way that I do not like. Again, I'm sure if I ran the amp on dirty it would be a different case.

To the person who mentioned that the Way Huge Aqua P*** is designed to run in the front chain. Is that common among most analog delay pedals? Or is that a unique characteristic of that pedal? I ask because I run my Carbon Copy and Malekko 616 analog delay pedals in my front chain and they've always sounded great imo. I wonder if they are designed to be used this way too.
