Fuse question...!

We have a Fender Blues Deville Reissue 4x10 , was modded last October , in order to let us get the volume knob up past 1 and a half !

Sounded great after the mod, then it started blowing fuses ... Spoke to the guy who did the mod and he said to put a higher rated fuse in. So, we changed the fuse from the stated F1.6a to a T3a as advised by the guy.

Then, at the next show it blew completely,... Have been back to the guy who did the mod who informed us that 2 speakers had blown and hence why it wasn't working at all.

He has replaced the speakers and repaired the amp, and it has come back to us with a T5a installed...

This seems too high compared to the stated rating of a F1.6 ... can anyone confirm if it is safe to run the amp with this T5 amp installed???? Or has anyone had a similar amp modified and will this affect the rating of fuse that should be used?

Thanks in advance
Mike

Hi manglebird,

What kind of "mod" was done to the amp? The fuse is there to protect the transformer, using a fuse that's 3 times higher value than it came with is ridiculous, and I would say unsafe. I would go to someone else to check out your amp and undo the damage done by the hack that "modified" your amp to begin with. Sounds to me that the one who modified your amp doesn't know what the heck he is doing. I would want to see these supposedly blown speakers, and find out how he "repaired" your amp. Blowing speakers and fuses and amp, is never a part of a successful mod, and I have a hard time believing that the speakers were ever blown. Sounds like the guy just replaced the fuse with a bigger one, and charged you unnecessarily for supposed "repairs".

If this "tech" were an attorney he'd be known among the partners at his firm as a rain-maker.

The modification of the potentiometer doesn't change the power supplied by the amplifier. The original fuse one shall be put back or there are another mods that can damage your transformer. 8) 8)
