I just got the amp (used) and have a problem with it. The amp works fine (everything functions) with the foot pedal jack inserted. However, as soon as I remove the jack, the red light of the drive channel is suddenly switched on and I cannot seem to operate the amp manually (no reaction to any knobs or switches). Does anybody know what may be going on here?

Thanks in advance,
Kees

on most amps with a pedal switch as soon as you unplug the cable it will swap channels... this is not a problem... if you cant switch channels with the channel select switch on the chassis then its probably a dud switch... you can get replacements fairly cheaply epending on where you go... if the foot switch still works fine then its more than likely the onboard switch that is gone...

if u have experience with valve amps then take the back cover off the amp and see if you can clean the switch or see any obvious damage... ( dont go prodding around with ur bare fingers... itll probably be the last thing you do... use a somthing wooden or something that cant conduct electricity...)

or have a local tech chek it out and replace the switch if needed...

Hi Cornelis,

Sounds like the foot switch jack itself is bad, or the solder joints for it are broken/bad. The jack has a switch that connects the internal channel switches when the foot switch plug is removed. If the switch on the jack stays open when the plug is removed, or the solder joints are open, the amp will be stuck in the drive channel, as the switches won't be connected to the amp circuit. If you are comfortable working inside the amp, and are aware of the lethal voltages inside, check the foot switch jack and solder joints on the amp.

Thanks, this may indeed be the problem. I do not intend to die soon so I'll try to find a tech to do the job for me.

Best wishes,
Kees

There were problems with contacts (loose) as well as the printed circuit board. Also, one of the tubes needed replacement. It should be fine now, and I'll pick it up later today.

All in all it didn't sound like something an unexperienced guy (like me) could have fixed by himself.

Best wishes,
Kees

Did your tech specify anything in particular that was loose or what the issue with the printed circuit board may have been. Just wondering so maybe i can fix up my baby on my own. Im pretty handy with an iron. Thanks again!!

Hi Brad,

He didn't specify it exactly, besides mentioning that several connections needed to be re-soldered; he said he hated these boards in non-customshop instruments as they, according to him, are not always constructed in the most 'delicate' way.

I am not handy with iron (except for screwdrivers..), so I didn't ask any further. I am afraid you will have to open up the machine and just check how everything is looking.

Good luck with it,
Kees
